Fully grown Majestic angel?

Hello everyone,

Majestic angel is one of my five most favorite fishes and I would like to learn more about them.
I was wondering if anyone have a fully grown Majestic angel in there tank?
How big is it?
How long have you have them in your tank?
What is the size of the tank that you keep them in?
I am thinking of keeping one in a standard 180 gallons (72"x24"x24) sps tank. Based on your personal experiences, do you think an adult Majestic (9"-10") can live an Okay, comfortable life in there?

I know that they nip and eat corals and I accept that fact.

Thanks,
Bao

I just picked up a 3" adult and he is doing great. Some times the larger the angel , the harder it is to get them to eat prepared foods. 180 would be perfect since they stay smaller than most angels

I'd be interested to see if anyone has grown a navarchus angel to their max size. They certainly aren't one of the species collected at such large sizes (as some species sometimes are, like emps, queens, etc).

They are the smallest of all the Pomacanthus but can still top out at 11 inches. Mine is a real toad, about 8" and nice and fat. It was the largest one I had ever seen outside of a public aquarium until last month when I walked into a local LFS and they had a 10 incher in there that looked like he weighed twice what mine did, just a beast. His cheek spine was well over an inch long and looked like he could really do some damage with it.

Mine is in a 180 standard and I think that is plenty of room for this species, they dont seem as active as other Pomacanthus I have kept and spend most of their days crusing the LR looking for tidbits to nibble on. They are also the mellowest Pomacanthus I have ever kept and real easy going. I have had mine for several years now and he has just about doubled in size.

I agree they are nice and mellow. I had one for many years and he never bothered any fish even mellow butterflies. I have a second one now in my 240g FOWLR and he too is a model citizen...

Here's my current specimen:

Terry Siegel had one for years in very large tanks and I doubt it ever topped 8" from his photos in all his magazine articles and online publications. I've had 2 for two years or more in a 150 and a 180. Both were around the 4" mark to begin with and they grew very slowly. They increased in girth but not much in length.

I remember seeing one between dinner plate and hubcap size in a public aquarium... I think it was somewhere near San Diego...

But as far as the original question, I think most people will agree a majestic will be happy in a 180.
