Fun tank shots of fish and some mixes that "don't work"

10 & Over Club
I was reading through some old threads and came across something funny (can't remember if it was something someone wrote or had in their signature) about how experienced aquarists dispense one type of advice to newbies and then turn around and ignore that advice themselves! Anyway, with that in mind, here are some fun top down shots from my tank the other day. For reference, my tank is 300 gallons in the display and the largest fish is currently the Imperator at about 8-10", although the three large tangs are all catching up. The newest fish to the mix is the Powder Blue which I think I've had for about 4-5 months. The oldest fish are the Dussumieris which I've had for about 2 years. The angels all have been in the tank for over a year. Most of the fish are closer to being around for 1.5-2 years.

6 different kinds of tangs in this picture.

6 plus the Imperator. Actually, this shot shows all 8 tangs I currently have in the display - 2 Yellows, 1 Purple, 2 Dussumieri, 1 Unicorn, 1 Powder Blue, and 1 Pacific Blue, so that's 3 Zebrasoma, 3 Acanthurus, 1 Paracanthurus, and 1 Naso, all living together and thriving, toss in a full size angel...

... or two (or three if the third one came out more when I was down there). This one adds in one of the Regals.

FYI, this started out as a post about my favorite thing about having a big tank on another forum.

The tangs look really healthy

They are, although the zebrasomas all have some HLLE issues as does the unicorn tang. The yellows picked it up when I had an issue in the tank but it's regressed a lot since I corrected what I perceived as the problem (carbon dust in the water) and the purple and unicorn had it severely before I got them but it is also getting better on the purple while the unicorn's comes and goes, believe it's bacterial or fungal, but nowhere to treat it and no ability to get it out of the tank to do this...

They are all fat and happy, although the Dussumieri like to give each other love marks once in awhile. Hoping that I don't need to get rid of one of them in the future. Neatest thing about these fish is when they are not trying to get to food they school together back and forth in the tank.

What are the corals in the tank that the Angels dont touch?

What are the dimensions of the tank?

The angels haven't touched any clams (I have had maximas, croceas, and a sqamosa (currently only have a maxima and a squamosa) or any sps (includes Montipora, Acropora, Pocillopora, Seriotopora, etc.). The Imperator is the only one who eats any coral and it took out a Trachyphyllia and some Acanthastrea echinatas in a few hours.

This is the last FTS I could find. It was prior to the sps crashing (toilet overflowed into the tank from the floor above). The fish have grown quite a bit since then. Also, some of the fish were lost in the aftermath of the sps crash, too, and the Imperator had not been added yet. Don't know if the regals were in there yet, either... Not sure when this shot is from exactly...

yes i am but i rarely post on there. been a member for close to a year. my tank looks a sump compare to yours lol.

Who are you on there? You should come back to us... lots of stuff going on! And yes, we do have some of the great tanks in the hobby. Copps and Leishman, big sellers on here with fantastic corals, both are members amongst others.

Nice FTS
Also that is the craziest story about a crash I have ever heard.

Yeah, I thought I had planned for everything... 3 different breakers 20 amps each on arc fault interrupters, each set of plugs is an individual GFCI in case something gets tripped, closed loops are on a separate pump from the return just in case of any circuits tripping, large electrical draws are all on individual circuits... planned for just about everything except I put it beneath a toilet. Who knew?:mixed:

Hey Dave! What the heck are you doing... you can't mix those fish! :hmm2::thumbsup: Nice shots... :)

And my angel guru chimes in! I'm still shooting for the pair of Imperators like you've got... still looking for a locally available and very healthy juvenile to test out the waters! Oh, and add another regal... heck, I'm just going to copy your tank as a whole!

Nice FTS

Completely off topic and sorry for cluttering the thread but I couldn't resist. sunsfishh I also miss Bert, what an amazing individual. He is deeply missed by those that knew him and the herp community.
