fungal stuff on body of firefish

my lfs gave me garlic to put on brine shrimp, he says its probably some fungal stuff, so does this work and usually how long?

garlic "supposedly"(and i stress supposedly) helps with the immune system..it will need to be treated with meds though..can you describe the fungal stuff??

its like a patch of skin that is different from the rest that i notice mainly when looking at the fish from an angle or when his face is facing me, i have a hard time seeing it from when i get his side shot only, dunno how to explain and probably doing a bad job

does it look "cottony", or is it just discolored????

i wouldnt say cottony, but it does look slightly puffy and more whitish when i look face to face or at an angle, and one now it looks like there is more spots
1 purple firefish has like 4 or so spots,
the other has 1 or 2
does not look like ick, spots are too big to be ick
