Fungus on SPS?

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has seen this stuff before. Best way I can describe it is a thin translucent layer of something that's slowly growing over live tissue until it dies back. It's growing at a rate of about 1mm a week. I ended up ditching the coral and others in the tank, since they seemed to come down with it as well. Ask around elsewhere and best guesses are fungus or something microbial.

If anyone's seen it before, let me know what you did to treat it, I'd still like to treat the tank even though I think I got rid of all corals with traces of it.

No carbon dosing at all, I read up on the effects of it when I was trying to figure out what this stuff is ,

Maybe it's a sponge, but it's extremely thin. I tried scraping it off when I was ditching the coral, but couldn't seem to get a good sample of it.

sahin, I did and for anything else I could think of pest wise. I've dipped everything before putting it into the tank and have dipped a couple times isnce this started happening.

I'm not saying it's not possible, just that it's highly unlikely that its AEFW or anything else that dips can take care of.

It's my first time in about 10 years that I've ever seen this stuff. People that have been around even longer haven't been able to ID it either.

This is depressing, losing everything in my tank slowly but surely and there's nothing that seems to be working :(

I dont know what other stock you have in your tank, but if it is indeed bacterial, I'd pull that coral from the tank if you havent done so already. Take some of the water from the tank too, and let the coral sit in a bucket with a powerhead of something for a few days. Meanwhile, locate an antibacterial dip thats safe for corals and dip the coral.

The dip that comes to my mind is API Melafix Marine (Make sure it says MARINE, CORAL AND FISH). I know that has very good antibacterial properties.

What have you dipped with so far? Melafix marine can be dosed directly into a coral display if you are losing everything...its a decent shot. I hope you manage to solve this.
