Fungus Question

Last weekend I picked up a frag of GSP for a co-worker who is turning her tank from a FOWLER into a reef. I gave her the frag on Monday.

Yesterday she said she noticed a white coating on the rock that was ovetaking the coral. We think it was a fungus. I told her to pull the coral, bag it up last night when she first got home and bring it in today for me to see.

I pull this thing out and WOW! It smelled really bad and was so far gone I didn't even try to save it.

So, what should she do to the tank now?

I am going to recommend a 5 gallon water change (She has a 29 gallon) asap. Should she do more frequent water changes for a while?

Is there any medications that she should start using to prevent a potential outbreak?

I looked at some sites and most fungal medications are for fish, does anyone know of just a treatment for the water?

Would something like chemipure or purigen do any good? What about carbon?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Here's a picture of the coral.

You can see the "stuff" inbetween the polyps.

Any ID?
