Furan 2 and Zoanthids...

What do you think about Furan 2 and the effects it has on zoanthids? There are some wild topics lately on this stuff and was wondering what the majority over feel like.

If used accordingly and just like the directions on ZoaId, you should be good. I've saved a lot of colonies from pox. But some polyps if caught too late might not make it.

It dosn't work for fungus , I've tried numerous times as an experiment. Just made the zoa's weaker and suseptible the fugus and die out faster.

I used it my first time just a few weeks ago. very effective in the light case of pox that was shipped to me.

I incidentally was watching a friends frag system(he has a maintenance business and supplies his customers) while he was out of town the next week. right before he left he had received a handful of large common zoa rocks from one of the usual suppliers that came in with a pretty good case of fungus. At first glance it appeared if we did some cutting we could save 15% of them. I didnt end up cutting anything off

I dipped them in furan while he was gone as had nothing to lose. It was a weak dip as I didnt have enough to be able to submerge them all at the same time and i was lazy. Illg uess 1/4 dosage but I did it for 30-45 minutes. Came back the next day and many of the ones that were already mush had completely disintegrated and were gone. 50% of the polyps were opent hat day. I never did dip again but it seemed to work contrary to what I was told that afternoon when I did some reading.

so .............I almost look forward to the next batch of wild polyps he gets in as typically there will always be one with the fungus going on on arrival. Im going to play some more

It may have had something to do with the weakened dose and maybe the time limit that made it help or it oucld have been unrelated altogether. Regardless, I think it is worht a little more experimentation before I will concede that it does more harm than good and doesnt help. At this point I think with the right procedure, it could possibly be beneficial........It apparently was in this case, but was not nearly controlled enough of a experimetn to be able to say the improvement wasnt coincidental

Ill take some pics next time and be more specific about how I go about it

Thats good to know about fungus. cause Ive tried a couple of time with fungus with the normal dose and they just dissintergrated on me a couple days after the treatment. Maybe I'll do what you did and do a lot lighter dose. I was actually thinking of experimenting using other funal meds out there when I do get some fungus on some zoos. ( hopefully not )

Just curious of what the wild topics were saying about it?

Do you have any links?

Were they for or against it?

It worked when I used it.

Would love to read those links, stop holding back Rev, LOL.

So my dragoneye colony was showing signs of zoa pox the past few days, getting real skinny, closed up and white bumps. Went out and got Furan-2 yesterday.

Not sure I did this right, but onepacket said it treated 10g so I took a small bowl about 1 gallon poured in about 1/8 of the packet mixed it with reef tank water. Dunked the colony for about 4mins took it out rinsed it off in r/o water and put it back.

At work now, can't wait to get home to see if anythings changed. And hope the way I treated it was right

Well I don't want to post links to other forums and I don't want anybody looking for them. I just wanted to have our own. My intent was not to drive people to another forum. :)

So I will say that some believe it's a miracle dip for zoas and others do not.

Rev, I doubt it would drive other to other forums but to give folks other venues to look for more info. Diversity in information is a great thing.

I've used both Furan and Vitamin C to treat zoas.

I'll stick with Vitamin C as my main treatment, as they both treat many of the same problems. I really like the fact that I don't have to pull things out of my tank to treat them. I just dose the whole tank. Vitamin C benefits not only my zoas, but also my LPS and SPS, and my fish. Can't say the same for my Furan capsules.

I wouldn't call it a miracle dip for zoas no more than I would call a fresh water dip a miracle cure for nudis. I have found that the key is daily observation and moving quickly to resolve the issues we have be it fungal, bacterial infection, parasites, predators etc in a very timely manner. I've heard great things about some of the things people are trying and I have heard horrible reports from others. There just aren't many absolutes in reefing. On that note, I tried the Furan and it worked for me Rev and a few others I know who have tried it.

After dipping in Furan-2 back to back days, 24hrs apart, 5 poylps are completly dissolving and 6 or so seem to be recovering nicely and are now opening up.
