Figures it dies today and outside temp is now - 12 tank temp is 72 normally 76 will this hurt the coral?

I wouldnt worry about 72 too much...if it gets any colder consider covering the tank with a blanket...also if youre able to get hot water, you could float some hot water bags in the tank as well. Good luck!!!

Not a good day it. I got up this morning and had no hot water. The power vent on my hot water heater was frosted over preventing it from going on. No power vent, no hot water. A minute with the hairdryer was all it took to get it going. If you have a gas furnace with a power vent that has a short run to the outside you may want to check for frost. The difference is that the hot water was off all night giving the frost a chance to form. Your furnace should have been running most of the night keeping the vent warm enough not to frost up. May be worth taking a look at the power vent if you have one.

My mother-in-laws and my furnace stopped working recently, simply had to clean one of the sensors. If its kicking on and then the flame lights up and then is kicks off right away, thats more then likely the issue.

I know there are heater experts in our group than can help or chime in.

Circuit board on my furnace died under warranty 4 months old all the sensors and moters are ok just wont fire the igniters hope to have a new board by 3pm

Man that sucks, toss a couple extra heaters in the tank if ya have them too..

Glad I heat with a woodstove..

Wife went out and pick up 2 250w heaters for me and put them in the tank the temp went down to 69 deg

hvac guy here- if you hear the gas valve click and hear gas come out and your igniter don't glow, it's prob you igniter. You can use a long grill lighter to light the gas if you time it perfectly. That will at least warm you back up.
Edit- just read the board isnt supplying power to the igniter.
You can still use the lighter to light the gas at the same sport where the igniter is.

I have an electric heater I keep if my furnace goes out. Picked it up after the blower motor blew two years ago and the house hit 50's. Think my tank hit around 70 then. Good thing you have a good furnace guy. Lucky if I can get ahold of mine to come fix something within a week. Might be time for a new guy.

You might get lucky - mine split after a temp drop on the tank!

my furnace has gone out twice since the first time but we found the problem.We have a gas insert but I was afraid to use it since we just moved in and I haven't checked it out.I borrowed a gas detector from work and found out co level went to 5 ppm so no real problem but noticed ph in the tank went from 8.36 to 7.8 when insert was used.has anyone with a gas insert notice this big of a ph drop when the use it?
