Future TOTM Material...

Wow... I sense a bit of negativity. While I understand that he may not be the most experienced reefkeeper (unless you know him, you wouldn't know). Either way, his setup is IMO nicer than 80% of the ones I see online, even without a drop of water in it.

Most people don't believe me when I tell them that I've only been in the hobby for two years. Who cares how long he's been doing this? Lots of people said the same thing about ChingChai's tank, and now he is among the most respected aquarists. ;) Anywho, I'm glad some of you enjoyed it!

not trying to be negitive..just jealous :)

But that being said..If I had half a million to toss about,I could make my basement into a marine heaven also..even with the six months I have in the hobby....

healthy animals impress me.

I'm even more impressed when somebody maintains healthy corals without the most expensive equipment money can buy. So far this guy's set-up oozes of a big budget and that's about all.

Haters...

Its not as if he is attempting to shade the fact that he is new to the hobby, he is here to learn not just to post photos and try to get recogition for his system. So what if the guy has a gigantic budget, don't let your jealousy cloud your vision. We accept people that are new to this hobby every day. Should we ridicule and shun this cat just because he has a fatter wallet than us?

absolutely not...in fact...I'd like to have him as my best friend.....

I'll bet :)

And Ryan- there's no hate.

I am envious of his budget BUT money can't buy experience.
Obviously this fellow will need to rely on the advice of others but he should be commended for seeking advice on his own.

aww lol i've seen so many people jumped on ,on RC and other boards about people buying a single tang for a smaller tank or people buying rare and hard to keep corals and them killing them from inexperience..and so on...

yet this guy (wile learning, good thing) is building a system that professional aquarists would have their hand full with..

I cant see putting the lives of who knows,I'd estimate 10-20,000 bucks of live stock that is so easy to nuke with a rookie mistake...

If you want to learn to drive, you don't buy a $100,000 car to do so ...just becaus..you can..Thats irresponsible IMO

again guys this man has hired a professional to guide him through this process. And as for budget are you really saying that if you had several thousands to spend on your tanks that you would use sponge filters from the seventies? come on you dont do that now, how many ofc us have reef keepers and expensive dosing pumps. I do and my budget is no where near his. While I may not agree that this is a good first tank we all began somwhere and we have all killed somthing that we should never have had none of you can deny that!!!! Ease up on the guy hes working verry hard to make this happen and be as sucessful as possible. Future TOTM mabey, mabey not. The TOTM is not all about $$$$$ its about the critters and presentation, hired pro or otherwise.

When I first saw the picture of the outside of the house I thought for sure it was the new build on Goodrich. Pretty crazy setup!

A 55 gallon reef that is doing great is better then a HUGE reef tank that is ok. I wish that guy the best of luck. I am jealous of not having that kinda money to spend but I love what I have and proud of what I have done in the past 5 years!

Experience or not, this guy has good taste and I'm in awe over the finish of his house and this tank for that matter.
I had to subscribe, Something tells me that the end might not be as glamorous as one might hope.

Waffleman

I skipped ahead to the part when the rock got delivered. man, if I was dropping that much coin on premium rock I'd make damn well sure I had the salinity of my curing vats right before it got there. a relatively minor mistake, but an indication of a possible bumpy ride ahead.

i think anything with that size of tank is going to fall into that category...I'll quote one of my favorite actresses....."Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride" ... Bette Davis.
