Fuzzy

Added a small fuzzy to my 47 gallon reef tank two days ago. He's eating live foods really well but now comes the hard work of training him to frozen - wish me well - *grin*.

Very cute! btw, that's a she not a he. :)

Female fuzzy dwarfs have more stripes on their little "wings" than the males. I forgot how many, but that's definitely a she.

I loved mine until it jumped out of it's tank. Never figured a fish like that woulkd jump--especially with the water level down 2" because of a snowfllake eel that was in there too.

oh that's great knowing HER sex :D

I'm really loving this little fish already. She's still hiding a lot of the time but when she does come out she happily cruises the corals.

I'm running my tank BB and skim fairly wet so I'm hoping that I won't have a problem keeping my water params high.

Any tips on getting her weaned and onto frozen?

I'd never figure a fish like this as much of a jumper...just goes to show!

To help with feeding.

Turn the lights down low...

Feeder stick with Silverside, krill or another food source on the end.....

Find some current and wiggle the food at the top of the water, in the current. I never had much trouble feeding lions.

If that doesnt work, soak the food in Garlic Guard and repeat above.

You can go a week without feeding the fuzzy if its healthy. Sometimes, from what I've read, it can take a while to get them to eat frozen. It might help to starve him a couple of days before trying.

Thanks smitch, I'll do as you suggested. I've been reading as much as I can about keeping her happy.

I have another Q. I'm wanting to try to make this a species tank just for her. Does anyone know what corals are found in the areas of the reef where fuzzy's cruise or is it very varied?

Also, once she's on to frozen foods is it a bad idea to give her a "live treat" once in a while?

Thanks :D

Mine loved pieces of people shrimp. I had a good current so it looked like it was swimming around. Be sure you have a nice rock shelf for her to hang out under.

Here's a FTS

'scuse the white rock tower...it's only been set up for about two weeks (everything except that came from my 29) You can see her at the bottom left of the rock tower if you squint lol. The PVC pipes will be covered in SPS eventually.
There's lots of caves and the entire back of the display is open.

staypuft--
your right on w/ the ID, but for the wrong reason. Female fuzzies has less than 6 stripes, males has 6 or more (usually under 10)

Thanks Sunfishh,

I didn't know how to link but if you copy and paste the addy in my sig you can see my build. I just started this tank three weeks ago. Everything except the tower rocks came from my 29.

Now to make/buy a feeding stick..what do you guys use that won't impale the fish if she snatches the food?

If you use a stick, definitely make sure it's not sharp. Lions sometimes get too excited about food and they'll bite more than they can chew, so to speak. I personally use one of those long feeding sticks/grabbers you buy at the LFS.
