Who has the biggest Aiptasia problem?

Post a pic to qualify, or have another person vouch that you that you have a serious problem.

Winner gets a Free Large Pepperment shrimp who will go to town! Winner is judged by the Aiptasia King himself :)

Lets see if anybody can top my old tank!

I can bring the pepp to the meeting for the winner, or to give to somebody who will hook up with the winner at some point, she is currently residing in my sump. Good Luck to all!

 Good one Bri. I don't have time right now to take a pic but I think I can come in a close second.

i'm going to knock on some wood really hard, but I think i'm Aiptasia free for now. of course this is probably my 1st marine tank ever that I can say that about. this is one contest that its great to lose.

If I hadn't used Joe's juice about a month ago I probably would have won...I do have 3 peppermint shrimp at the moment but I have yet to see at least one of them eat any aptasia.

I imagine it would kill just about any marine invert with a mouth. Zoas, shrooms, anenomes, ricordea - you name it.

I should have taken pictures of this rock I picked up from a guy getting out of the hobby a couple years back. He said he had _some_ aptasia. It all looked exactly like brian's pic up top. I had to cook it for 6 months before the last of it died off.

ages and ages ago I used to work at a small fish shop that would actually sell rocks just covered in them as "anemone rocks". asked a small fortune for them too.

I used a thick kalk paste to nuke them back in the day, its lots cheaper than the joes juice, and it supps some alk and ca in the process, cant go wrong there. And Im sure it would take care of shrooms, xenia, majano, etc.

Somebodys got to have a pic of there aiptasias, should be an easy win/peppermint shrimp for anybody, Ill let the contest run untill the meeting.

Sure its kinda a backwards contest, and its not out to make fun of anybodys tank, I just wanted this peppermint to go to a home where its most needed, thats what started it all.

Mike, Muelpaul get some pics up.

I will post for Dan

The one side has an Auigra butterfly fish in it so one out of 4 isn't to bad but the rest are big enough to swallow a piece of krill whole

Sorry for so many but it's hard to get Detail from a
full tank shot.

I had one tank that I just let get over run with aptasia. Yes I did this on purpose. I wanted to transfer my copperband to this tank and I wanted to be sure it had a good food source until it was aclimated. Didn't take long and the aptasia were gone. Funny though it would never touch my majano's.

IMO kalk paste or a product like joes juice is only a short term fix. They almost always come back. What I would do is nuke(kalk) the big ones as the peppermint shrimp will not really eat the big ones very often. But they hammer the offspring. I always kept at least three peps in a system. So nuke the big ones and let the peps clean up the mess.

gooch

I love my copperband.

Well I just clicked on the light to take a pic maybe I should let them wake up a bit first.

This contest is getting hard to decide a winner...

Mike, what tank is that in? Have you tried pepps yet?

Muelpaul, what size are the pepps in your tank?

For all of you, I agree with gooch, you have to kill the large ones your self (a thick kalk paste works best), and the pepps take care of the small ones you created when killing the large ones.

This peppermint has been caught eatin my Suncoral, pocillapora, rhocdus mushroom, and my nephelia. So I think it may even take on some large aitpasias.

Hi BriGuy, I have three that range from small to medium. They all comb the rocks at night but I have yet to see them even attempt to eat the aptasia. They are bigger than when I purchased them though so they must be eating something,

I like gooches idea the copperband makes quick work of them. It would be fun to stick him in this tank for a little while. Anyway I took another pic after the lights were on for a while lets see if it looks different.

Not in this tank Bri but I have had them before. This is just kind of the junk tank.

Jason you have any detail shots of the Aptaisia Tank Lisa has indicated. There is a couple spots where I have Aptaisia so solid there are no gaps between them. Auigra butterfly fish seem to handle the Big Aptaisia as well. Spike I'm looking for another butterfly if you have one in. They seem to really do well in these tanks. Thanks Lisa for posting but I don't think I want to win.
