I'm betting RC gave all the info over to them...not saying they're at fault for this, but they do have all that info(IP address can easily be linked to physical connective address...actually really easy to do)
All you really need is an IP(links to Mac address which links to your physical computer)

Well..either way, it's pretty crummy because this person concocted a much bigger story which was bogus. I am certain whoever they are, they must be perfect in every way.

I am not doubting you, but for real, they came to your door, how long after this happened? They really had the RC posts printed out?
If so, thats pretty messed up and I doubt I will be contributing to the boards anymore......................

You know as I think about this I am shocked.
I live by some train tracks and power lines and we ride out 4 wheelers out there regularly.
Some *******s have dumped deer parts (ie: Legs and remains) out there in full view of any one who passes by. It smells like death.
I called Fish and Wildlife to report the illegal dumping and the POACHING , well if I didnt see the person who did it, theres nothing they can do. Unbelievable!! But they can come to a house of someone who took less than 1 lb of rock?
Hm, so, who ever did this, can you do something about this dumping and poaching in my area, its on the train tracks by Blue Springs State Park.

Holy Crizap! Speechless.....freakin speachless. Im not in ORCA but I wouldnt want to be if this was done by one of your members. He clearly learned his lesson and you sick the authorities on him? I am still in awww. The possible ramifications this could bring on him and his family, getting into colleges, all of that and you turn him in for peanuts? I hope you feel Big and hopefully a Big ol Hurricane will visit your house this year. Speechless...........

The deer thing is definitely messed up. I cant believe they didnt even come and clean it up! Last night when this thread started, I was so caught off guard, all I could say was, "Holy crap, I cant believe this!" Im still shocked. I hope that the person that turned Seth in is getting the satisfaction they were looking for.

Seth, I'm truely sorry for what is happening to you and your family. It really sucks that someone would beef up a story and call FWC on you.
If your parents insist you have to get rid of your tanks, I wouldn't mind fostering them for you. Even if it is for quite a while. That way you can still have them once everyhting blows over.

I'll say again, while I have sympathy for Seth and what he is going through, he actually did do something illegal and posted it on a public forum.
Pointing fingers wont change what has already happened because once you post something like that you're really leaving it up to anyone including the authorities in any shape or form to take action. It is why we have laws and rules.
I am sure if Seth did something worse like hijacked a car and then put up pictures of him in the act or something that you might feel differently because of the type of crime involved, but whoever did this clearly did it in a way where Seth gets to pay even more and they get to hide in the shadows. Well, can't change how far its gone with seth now so whats the point?
I still have mixed feelings about all this. Okay, so someone reported a crime. That doesn't bother me at all, but it sucks that its Seth and his family paying more for it. On the other hand if you're going to dramatize accusations like that to the authorities and lie, I'm not sure I'd want to be in a club with you... so I hope whoever did this, if they are involved with ORCA.. Yes it all is real, they came to my door with a printout all highlighted and hwat now and did what they did, they said that they sat outside out house for 30 minutes before they came up to make sure they came to us at a time that looked to be the best, in other words, they were surveilling my family for 30 minutes before they came up to bash me for taking less than a half pound of rock.
By the looks of it this morning, i may be able to keep one of my tanks, but my mom siad that i have to get rid of two...
(probably my 5.5 and my 29)
But that is how i feel about it right now, i am shocked that they are not out there bustin the real criminals who DO intend to do wrong with the rock or other things oillgal that they could get busted for....??? And yeah, on a lighter more funny note, they asked me this random question last night and were TOTALLy serious abou it "DO you or do you know of anyone who buys sells or traffics deer meat?"

I wanted to do this earlier, but felt that if everything remained the way it was, then no big deal. Well, by Seth getting in trouble, it has become a big deal...so I will say my peace:
Please everyone, remember that this is a public forum...anyone is allowed on here, anyone can view your posts, and anyone can use this information in any way they feel necessary. Please do not confuse this forum with ORCA. Not everyone that comes here is a member. Not everyone that is a member is actually participating in our meetings, or even discussions on here.. If you are confusing this forum with ORCA or some kind of connection between the two, the name is as far as you should go.
At our meetings, we allow guests, but we make sure everyone who is a guest gets a nametag and is known as a guest. I stand behind our club, no matter what. If you think some snitch(club member or not), regardless of who it may have been, represents our club, you are highly mistaken. We are about information, spreading knowledge, saving our reefs, and promoting conservation along with generally accepted reefcaretaking practices for our members and for our lfs's. This being said, it is not our club's intention to mislead authoriteis, incur penalties or damages on our members, or detract from a generally happy and helpful club. Seth is a valued member, regardless of some improper actions in which he has suffered more consequences than may be necessary for a person in his position.
Again, ORCA did not sick the cops on Seth and it quite possibly was not even a member of ORCA...in fact, I think anyone that has ever been to a meeting and met Seth would understand that noone that actually knows him would have done this...this was a malicious act upon one person and has no ties to ORCA. To say our club is responsible or that you're glad you're not a member of ORCA because of this is just silly. If anyone is to blame it would be non-ORCA members coming on to our forum, not the ORCA members and regular participants in this forum. We unfortunately have no control over our forum here and anyone can view and/or post in our threads...this is EXACTLY why last year we made a fourm on our website( www.o-r-c-a.com ) that will afford our members more control, our board would be able to monitor and have administrative priveledges, and we would moderate and control without the issues we have here. Also, we would then be able to differentiate between ORCA members with issues on a topic or non-members who just come to try to ruin the party for everyone else. Unfortunately, too many of you were set in your ways and would not make the move over to our forum, so we are stuck in the same position we were last year: Powerless on our forum. If anyone really actually wants to make a change, start using our forum on our website...heck, link threads over to here...it really doesn't matter.
But by not being an ORCA member, come on!!! How are you going to say our club is not a good one or has problems...if you want to change something, join the board, be proactive, heck, just join the club...it's $25 that goes to our club and our activities and our ability to be more productive as a club for the exact reasons you feel are problems. It would be absurd to blame our club for the actions of one person who is not even necissarily in our club.
Seth, good luck with your issues, I hope they are all ironed out without any severe legal ramifications.

That's good news about your tank seth, at least with the 75 you can try to cram everything else from the smaller tanks into it.
Yeah theres other "real" criminals out there and such but thats not what the FWC is about. What if everyone who went to the beach took home 1 rock.. there'd be nothing there eventually. Its that foresight into the future and strict enforcement of "petty" laws like this that will help save our environment.
Unfortunately you got stuck in the middle of it.
I'm just glad you didnt take a lot because they can get really serious about it. I don't know if you keep up with the news but when they bust guys down in the keys.. they are REALLY strict. In fact, there are people with permits and liscenses to harvest certain things and even they are afraid to do so because if they get stopped its a very very big hassle once you've collected because you have to be able to prove down to the grain of sand where you collected from and that it wasn't illegal.
But, by cracking down like this, hopefully it will save Floridas coasts in that respect. There's a humongous amount of overfishing, trawling, illegal taking that with newer technology is doing serious damage to our waters. I think you just took one for the team since you collected so small but there is a moral to the story.

Also, you know, I saw a guy post about one of his friends taking over 1000lbs to make his setup and he didn't get in trouble. I even mentioned that it is things like this that really hurt our hobby and that person should face recourse for his actions...did I call the cops? No. Was this worse than what Seth did? Close to 1000times worse. Yes, if every single reefer went to the ocean and took a lb of rock it would have a dramatic effect. Will one person taking less than a lb? No.

I am glad that you made that post craig, if somsone didnt, i would have aswell, i agree, it was no-one that is an ORCA memeber who would have done that, we all are here to help each other out, throught the goot times and bad, like a big family we are here to learn from our mistakes and be taught what is wrong and how not to do it again. I really do feel that we are like a big family and i respect everyone it ORCA. Yes i made a mistake, and i learned my lesson, HARD, but i learned it. I think i know who did it, and i am pretty sure he is not a member. Thank you guys for offering all your help and support,and i will keep you all updated on whatever happens. BUt please, dont go hating the person who did this becuase they did, but keep the family mood in mind and just realize that maybe he made a mistake aswell, or a couple. But anywho, thank you guys for being such good people, you are strict and hard when you need to be (when i siad i took it), and then understanding and helping when things got out of hand.

Oh and, IDK how theheck they got my address, not even my last name is on my profile on RC< or my email address or anything, i never giv emy address out, and my IP address is hidden using a program that my dad has to prevent hacking and things....so, i really dont know how they got it...unless, someone at an ORCA meeting saw my name tag and my last name and then searched me up, found my paretns names and searched them in yellowbook, then gave my address tot he FWC, they said they were given all information about me, so i think that measn name, address and all........Yeah, IDK how they got that

IP addresses are not hidden when you connect to another site. You may be able to try to mask them but they're really easy to track down and authorities can subpeona your information from RC or at least find out who your provider is via RC and contact your ISP for that information.
