Gaping Mouth on Green Carpet

I picked up a large green carpet today.. Yesterday at the LFS he looked great, today he had a large gaping mouth. I got a deal on him so I couldn't pass up, thinking maybe he was just stressed or just crapped.

Well, now he's in my tank and still has a large gaping mouth. I tried feeding silversides and fresh shrimp. He won't eat though.

Any insight is appreciated.

He's under 175's.

He looks great. Wide wide open and super sticky. (yes, I know, great description words. Really captures the picture) and he quickly took to attaching himself.

only thing is the wide open mouth.

ok imagine this being green and being mine (both of which it's not)

The mouth looks just like this one.

Looked alive still this morning.

When I got home it was flat and the base was all shrively looking. I gave it more direct flow and it's looking a little more lively.

What does a dead carpet look like?
