Gaps between tank rim and top of stand

So I finally am getting around to leveling my tank before the fresh water test and I realized that there is some gaps between the tank and the top of my stand. It is down hard in some spots and others there is 1/16" space. Some of the spots that have a gap are right on the corners. I have a 40 breeder with rim on the top and bottom.

I was thinking of cutting 1/16" horseshoe shims and putting them where there are gaps, is this a good idea? The gap seems to be exactly 1/16".

Any other suggestions would be appreciated

Shimming between the tank and stand is NEVER a good idea. It will cause pressure points that will eventually lead to failure. The only real fix is to make the top of the level and planar.

i've always placed down a yoga mat or something like that under a tank first. it's an easy way to self level a tank across a flat surface. last thing you want is a stress point on tank. it's not common but they can blow apart.

Try some single sided foam tap, this will take up pressure in some spots and fill in others and should fix tour problem without causing damage later down the track

Get a new stand that is actually flat and flush with the tank. I think the King of DIY recently posted a video that showed a tank that cracked because the stand wasn't flush with the tank.
