Garage tank, permit needed?

Going to setup a 400 gallon tank cut through the garage wall allowing a view from the family room. Does anyone know if a building permit is required? Not sure how to get around the firewall code in the garage.

Also, Although the tank is in the garage it isn't on a slab. It is about 12 foot off the ground as my house is on a hill. Going to have to figure out if I need to brace it further!

There are some basics that do require permits such as plumbing, electrical, and/or water modifications. However i would recommend you contact someone locally to get a more specific answer to your situation. I have a feeling you might need one as your tank may be classified as a window.

Building codes can be drastically different from one locale to the next so it's best to check with yours. Getting a building permit is probably the smartest thing you can do, as a competent building department can help you make sure that your installation is safe and your house retains it's insurability.

Do it right. Do it to code.

So has your wife already permitted you to do this or is this something you are trying to figure out how to ask permission for?

I would have a "friend" ask if a permit is needed just to be safe especially if there is contract work involved.

Good luck.
