Hey everyone,

So my dad has a charcoal attachment to our hose for the garden. Is it safe to use it for my aquarium? He said it dechlorinates the water. Do i need better water? Cant afford ro/di for a couuple months and domt want to buy water from the lfs. Any Recommendations?

Sorry to say but it won't be sufficient. Those type of filters aren't designed for our requirements and won't come close to providing good water for you. You're better off waiting until you can afford a RO/DI unit and spending that time reading more :)
It will save you headaches in the long term.

It may remove chlorine (how effectively I don't know), its unlikely it will remove chloramine. At the end of the day its up to you but as I said before I would advise waiting until you can get the correct filter. IMO you need better water then that filter will achieve.

It depends on what your goals are, what you plan on keeping. But, I would not use that attachment to remove chlorine. I'd get chlorine remover first(It's cheap). Or get 5 gallon jugs of RO water from a grocery store/wal-mart.

RO/DI isn't necessary. As much as everyone preaches the good word of RO/DI - it is the best stuff. It isn't a requirement.

If you want to keep some softies and easy lps and fish, I've done that with chlorine remover (Designed for fish tanks) and tap water. I've also done the RO route which was alright. .. I use RO/DI now(2007 was first time I used it), but if you can't afford an RO/DI unit, you likely don't have high end lighting, and don't have plans on keeping difficult to keep things.

You might fight algae though with tap water. you'll have to stay on top of that and it will mean more work for you.

Despite ur assumptions which are wrong.. I do intend to keep high maintenance fish and coral. And i have t5 lighting, skimmer, and a carbon reactor which can b used for gfo also.. I was only asking about the hose filter so maybe u should keep it to that topic.

Thanks

Wow, talk about good advice being given and then getting spit in the face because the advice was more in depth...

Didnt realize ur butt brothers.. I appreciate advice but the last part was not in depth nor was it necessary, needed, or helpful.
