I have a 50 gal reef tank and have enjoyed it totally until I have tried to introdce any type of fish or do any sort water change or added any sort of wildlife to the mix...all is good til the white spots start t appear, my problem i think is ICH.. the stress has killed a couple of fish and have upset the kids... I know you can't add cooper to the mix. but what I heard was that if you put a drop of garlic oil on the food when you put it in the tank that it will be better to get rid of it-- please help-- I am tired of the fish dying.....does anybody use this stuff and where do I get it from??

i used it once and the ich went away.. not sure if it was it or if it was just that it killed it self off but cant hurt

Have you tried to quarintine your fish before adding them to the tank? 4-6weeks of qt should let you know if your fish has ich /other parasites before adding it to the larger tank-its easier to treat and observe in qt. Good Luck Jolene

I have ich right now in my 220 FOWLR tank and I use garlic every day when feeding so I am pretty sure garlic is not the answer. I have tried Kick Ich that is reef safe with mixed results. I have ordered Parasite Stop which I understand works quite well and is also reef safe.

I live in the great mouse city-- so to learn about the life of the natural fish can only come from a place like sea world... each day I learn a little more about my environment!! I have heard that Garlic is the magic bullet for ICH in a reef tank-- I will keep my fingers crossed.... the rest of the stuff they sell on the intranet and store is garbage...... think about it-- they say garlic is really good for us..... why not the folks living within the house!!

You can also use anything from garlic powder (pure) cooking variety (not garlic salt!) to real garlic squished into the food. It will help---I don't say cure---but help. One variety of Formula One sinking food has it as a featured ingredient. My plate coral finds it delicious...so I've never known it to hurt anything. The theory is it makes the fish's tissue 'smell' so bad to the parasite it won't take hold. I don't know about that: it may just make them slime all over, like tearing eyes, which couldn't hurt either.

Anything that says it is reef safe is a shot in the dark. If I were you, I would play it safe and not add meds to a reef. By the way, garlic mixed in the food seems to do wonders and is perfectly reef safe.
