Gas Bubbles in Pouch

One of our male seahorses keeps getting gas bubbles in his pouch.
The first time we tried manually massaging them out which did not work. Then one of our books suggested using the covered soft end of a bobby pin to release them. This worked very well. But in two days he was having trouble swimming upright again so we had to do it again. It has been every two days x 4.
No pus comes out. He seems well in other ways. We have two other males and a female in the same tank - they all seem fine.
Any ideas on what is causing these bubbles to recur?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

it also maybe an issue of eggs in pouch.is the seahorse large? how long have you had em? may have been carring eggs that rotted in pouch which cause the gas bubbles. have you seen any mating behavior? just another consideration
