Gathering interest (Coral sales)

i have several 3-7 inch rocks that i can get corals to cover, was wondering wich would be best, use as extra base rock, or grow coral on them & sell them.

the coral colonies would be White Xenia, Green Star, Green-Watermelon & Purple Mushrooms (Mixed), White polyp Devils hands, Cabbage leathers, & Red/Black & Orange Zoanthids.

WV only as i will meet you somewhere or Deliver them.

prices would be 40 - 75 $

IMO and remember this is just my opinion hopefully others here will chime in. You're potentially asking LFS prices for relatively common fast growing soft corals.

I use to sell 3" frags of green star polyps for ~ $15.00 or less.
White and elongota (spelled wrong I know) xenia sold for $5-10 a stalk if not free. Same for the common varieties of leathers, shrooms etc.

Depending on what the zoas look like a $40.00 may be realistic depending on the size of the frag.

Also the make up of members here come and go. Right now I'd venture that most here if they like this type of coral already have or had what you're offering so that may be another reason for no response. In 6 months it could be totally different. So maybe start growing them now and test the water in a few months...you could always try sell to the "farmers market" at Jo-Mars or at one of their swaps.

I might be interested in some of the mushrooms once I get some other things lined out but I'd be more in the market for one or two polyps on a small frag or plug.

I know of people that will trade in corals to Jo-Mars and Fuji's. Depending on what their current stock levels, they might be interested for trade-in credit. Also, a friend of mine had some success selling in the local Ad-Bulletin.

To sell at one of the CVRC swaps, you have to meet a set of predefined criteria (attended x number of meets, x number posts on the board, etc.) So you'd have to become very active with them to be able to sell at the swaps.


Lastly, photo's help a lot to spur interest.

well this post was not for frags, i was considering growing large colonies of these corals & selling them (if there was enough interest in me doing so) , not selling frags..frags would be lower, 15-25 $ depending on type/size. i dont sell extra-small frags except for certain corals..

Hitman, look at the ARS Members Tanks thread, pictures of the zoas are there. are you interested in frags, a new larger colony, or the main colony shown ?

i dont go to meetings & i tried LFS's most are not interested in corals, i prefer to sell my own, on my own time.
