Gauging interest..selling my 120g Cube Starphire Reef Tank and equipment

ghever, as I stated before my friend is really interested in this tank. He is offering $350. Personally I think that this is more than a fair offer.

SouthernReefer.....the tank is DEFINITELY reef ready.. as I said in the original post, it has a center overflow, maybe I should have stated BUILT IN overflow :D Anyways, it has built in overflow, with a 2in drain (lord knows who needs one that big, I reduced to 1.5") and it has 4 returns set up, 2 on either side of the overflow, 2 near the water line, and then 2 on the bottom of the tank. But I cannot ship to Texas....sorry.

don't be affraid to make a counter offer. He is willing to deal but the price must be realistic. Considering that that 210 starphire tank sold for $400, his offer seems gracious.

Umm, the 210 sold for less because they were leaving town and people lowballed them at the end and took advantage of them.

$350 for a $1300 seems fair to you? I suppose it should be less because it has some scratches, but damn, there is a stand, a canopy, and a sump I am including in on the deal, and if he doesnt want them all, I guess $400 for tank alone would be ok, but what would I do with the stand and canopy?? Sump I suppose I can see separately.

Anyways, I am trying to sell it as a package deal for now... so no thanks to 350 or 400....sorry...

Guys you cannot come on here and think because one tank sold for a certain price that the next tank should as well.. bigger tanks resell for less because there aren't as many people in the market for a big tank....less people =less offers= lower price for tank. Throw into it that they were leaving town and were desperate to sell it, I think you are kidding yourself... additionally their tank did not come with the sump for that price, nor a canopy.

I am sorry the offer offended you. I actually thought he should offer you $300. Is it fair that a 3 year old $1300 tank being sold used after it has scratches for $900? Not to mention you aren't even the original owner so you don't even know who built it just in case it fails. Might I also include that you paid a maximum of $900 for the tank last year and that was a complete system? You are obviously are keeping the 150lbs of live rock (150 lbs. @ $1.50/lb = -$225), and the 150-200 lbs. of live sand (150 lbs. @ $.50/lb = -$75), and the Mag 18 (-$100), and the Icecap 250 watt MH ballast (-$100), and the Reef Optix III reflector w/ bulb (-$100), and the Berlin skimmer (-$50), and the blue crocea clam (-$20), and corals (-$10-100 depending on size and health conditions). By my calculations $900 ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ ($680 to $770) = $130 to $220. Now I have also factored in that you may have lost the corals, and the clam that brings the price up to $250, also maybe the pump was also a Mag 12 instead of the advertised Mag 18 (+$35) still that is only $285. So what else? Are you charging a storage fee? My friend was actually willing to pay $500 for the tank but I did not think that was a fair price since it was undeserved. Maybe you might want to try reposting the tank in a new thread with a FAIR price. Good luck with the sale!

Here is a link to the original sale when you bought the tank.

damn I wish RC would do something about people like gcarroll.. moderators, arent there rules against people like Greg?

Lets see... all i have left from the original tank is the tank itself.

The stand and canopy I spent countless hours and material cost out of my own pocket to make. The plumbing I redid on my own with ball valves etc that were not included...the pump I got rid of because I did not need it...the sump was custom built for me by so cal creations and cost $250..

Some of the corals I still have, but none of them are worth a carp load of money.. all the live rock i got died on me and I had to buy new rock and use the old stuff as base rock... Do we really need to continue debating?

I sure hope the moderators do something about guys like I you, I truely am not trying to make a profit hear, just asking for what is a fair price, you dont think it is,keep it to yourself and go find a different tank to buy.. and good luck finding a cube like this, considering there are hardly any starphire cubes out there available.

No we don't. It is hard to understand what you are saying with your foot in your mouth! Enough said!

If you don't like the price, then you should stay out of it. Its his tank and his price. This is very expensive hobby and we're trying to get much money back as possible and sometime we make a little off it, but rarely. In this case, he did, but you forget to mention his time and effort and taking the risk.

Anyways, let all sit down have a cup of tea and lets all get alone.
"can we just all...get alone"

O.K. I'm sorry ghever.:)

Greg, your apology is accepted, but I am not making money off this deal...the skimmer that came with it was trash, I actually got nothing for it since it broke during shipping to guy who bought it.. the mag pump was junk and I almost had to give it away.. the corals I got either died or were dying, the only thing left alive are some zoos , a few ricordia, and the clam... they might be a total of $50 to $60...the MH pendant I still have..it was probably worth around $100 since I had to buy a new bulb and pendant is kind of old and rusting. The tank I had to clean up... the stand I probably spent around $200 to build, the canopy probably around $100...the plumbing in ball valves and check valves alone which I bought cost me around $100...the wye check valve alone is $30 new. Custome sump cost me $250

Do you get my picture here? Yes I bought it for a good price, but I had to invest a lot more money into the tank... I suppose if I keep the sump, i can throw in a 20g L acrylic tank i had used as a sump into the deal, remove the plumbing, and sell the tank for $600 with stand and canopy...I would then have to sell the plumbing and sump hopefully for around $200...

Thanks for understanding.
