GBTA feeding time!

I purchased this GBTA yesterday mainly as a home for my 2 Ocellaris but I have quickly turned into a nem lover. I just spent the past 2 hours watching it eat half of a silverside.

I was totally amazed. At first, it pulled in the fish from the fat side and had it almost all the way in it's mouth and the pushed it back out and spent the next ten minutes flipping it around and proceeded to pull it in from the fin and then it was gone. I can't believe I stood there almost 2 hours watching this!

By the way, the clowns haven't given the BTA a second glance. Maybe they are too young.

Hehe they're amazing aren't they? :D

I love my RBTA. Guests are always fasinated by him and ask what it is. I say "A anemone. Would you like to feed him?" They look confused as I hand them a frozen fish. Hehe such a good party trick!

Your clowns might take a while to notice your BTA as it's not a natural host for them. My B&W female took just over a mth, but it varies... just give them time. :)

Good luck and enjoy! :D

exactly, my clowns have never looked at my BTA's, they have hosted everything under the sun but never the anemone's. for me the clowns were inherited with the tank and i really wanted a GBTA. i hoped for the best ( still keeping my fingers crossed ) but i'm not holding my breath.

here is a link to a really good anemone FAQ that explains which clowns prefer which nems.

Most of the day today, the clowns have been hovering about 2 inches directly above the GBTA and have gone down on to it a few times and touched the tentacles with their noses! Seems like they are becoming acquainted. Fingers are crossed.

I fed him again today and he pulled the silverside in immediately and and it was not seen again.

interesting thread, just have a few questions myself:

1. How long does a average anemone take to eat? (mine tank 5 mins tops)
2. How long shud clowns take to host unnatural hosts? My cinnamon hosted a bta in a day and my pair false percs took a half hour
3. What's the best meal for nems? I feed my BTA shrimp, but i fed him some silverside today, as well as the sebae. I usually feed the sebae mysis tho.
4. Finally, how do you properly feed silverside? Do you feed chopped pieces with or without bones?

sry to kinda hijack thread, just had a few Q's myself.

I am new to nems so don't have any real experience to work from.

Today, I fed him the front half of a silverside and it took about 10 minutes for him to pull it in from the tentacles on his outer edge, insert in mouth and then disappear in his mouth. Fully engorged, he is about 10 inches across.

well schigara, my nems are doin great, but is yours stinging? Does it GRAB ONTO the pieces you give? If not that could be a problem

He is grabbing the food with his tentacles. I don't know about the stinging yet as it has yet to sting me.
