GBTA help

my GBTA that i ordered from vivid aquariums has just arrvied, im in the process of slowly acclimating it but i am very concerned. It arrived very dead looking and the bag smells. The mouth is open by about 1 inch and it looks like scrambled eggs inside, white stringy stuff is all over the bag and hanging out of the mouth, is it dead or is this just waste? I'm afraid of putting it in my tank for fear of contamination. Are these symptoms normal? It was also in transit for two days instead of 1 because the plane malfunctioned :mad2: Any thoughts?

I wouldn't say it's normal, but it still may have a chance if you provide it with excellent conditions. I would definitely be getting my money back, if I were you.

If it smells worse than rotten eggs take a picture contact the vendor then toss it its probably dead they will foul your tank up FAST if you put it in and it immediately dies. try drip acclimating it in a bucket and see if that helps to close anythign up but contact the vendro ASAP if they have a arive alive guarantee

I called them and the guy said that "they may get stressed in transit and they would never ship an unhealthy specimin". He said to take a picture and to put it in the tank and it would shape up...
Should I just take several pictures and contact them again telling them it is dead? They have a 15 day guarintee but he kinda hinted that I should put it in the tank and I can't use the guarintee on the first day or something. Im going to keep acclimating it in a bucket and see if it gets any better.

yes take as many picture as you can to show them. acclimate it slowly because he is right sometimes they do just ship poorly and shape up in your tank. however is he awarte of the delay in shipping because sometimes they will not validate the 15 day unless it reaches on time. if you do put it int he tank keep a CLOSE eye on it because they can go downhill very quickly.

it attached instelf to the bottom of the bucket but other than that no other signs of life. How do you know if it is dead for sure? You say to watch it closely but at what point would you say it is a gonner?

If it attached to the bottom of the bucket, that is a very good sign. Could you post a few pics on here for RC members to see.

What is the best way to post the pics? i took a bunch of good ones but I don't know how to upload them. Tried doing it to gallery but said image was to big.

Latest images, it started looking a little better so i put her in the tank.

As you can see, my clown knows how to get around ^^ He left his former colt host within 30 seconds and began protecting his new host. Honestly, I now can't really tell if it is trying to get rid of a lot of waste, or if it is part of the anemone. The mouth doesn't look so gaping anymore, it is still about an inch wide but not loose.

Here are some more images taken aprox 4-5 hours after going into the tank.

Do you think it would be ok if the clown stayed the night in chamber 3 with the pump over night so that I could move him to a proper tank tomorrow morning?

Wow, that is its intestines you see there. How long did it take to ship to you? It looks like it can make a full recovery, needs to have lots of indirect flow so that it can take in fresh water and breath. Good lighting, not intense, just moderate PC or VHO. You may need to force feed it myasis soaked in seacon or zoecon. Good luck, just think how good you will feel when you nurse it back to health.

Ordered monday, arrived wednesday because it got grounded due to plane malfunction on tuesday >< The whole reason I tried ordering online this time was because the LFS stuff wasnt looking that good. Kinda frustraiting when you pay a lot of money and it comes all beatup. I really have no idea what all I need to do in order to save this creature, but I will try out of the goodness of my heart insteade of demanding my money back :P If someone could please pm me if they think they could help me get through this, that would be great!

I expect with good conditions your anemone will recover. The advice to prevent the maroon from touching it is good advice, some people put something like a plastic crate or a lettuce drainer--something that allows water flow and light, but no maroon. Or, if you could remove the maroon period, that would be good for the time being. The anemone is bleached and will need good light to get back up to shape. What is your lighting, water parameters (nitrate, specific gravity, temp., ph, alk,)?

I have seen worse for sure and it doesnt look that bad. If it can attach its foot to a rock, then you are still in the game for sure and the ball is in your court, so to speak. Water parameters, as garygb said will be one of the key factors. The water must have good water parameters and they need to be stable, no major flucuations in any of them (temp, salinity and pH). My guys seems to like PC lighting, I know that goes against what most ppl say about these guys, but I have seen him under MH and he did not like it for sure. I know for a fact that VHO lighting is good too. They seem to like bright light, but not intense focused light (esp right on top of them). Current is important too, not direct, but indirect, meaning the water needs to be moving around the BTA, but the power head should not be pointed right at it. Careful with the power heads, if the BTA decides he wants to move, it might get sucked up in the impeller. Either cover the intake with mesh or whatever.

Good luck!

It took a turn for the worse overnight. This morning I cut a coke bottle and punched holes in it and placed it around it. Also tried feeding but I think it has passed on to a better place, or very close to it =( .Intestines are spilling out everywhere and I can see a few tenticals that have come off.It is also very mushy.
It's current tank is my 14 biocube. 24w fluorescent / actinic. I was thinking of uping the watts but i'm not sure if it would be to much in a small tank. Most tanks seem to be 3-4 watts per gallon but that might be to much for mine.

Bummer, did you protect it from the Maroon? They are pretty aggressive. I know mine looked pretty narley when I got it, but that was over 3 years ago.

Yeah, I had it protected. I'm thinking of moving my maroon anyway because he doesn't like to make friends with anyone else hehe. Just not big enough for more than the maroon. Was planning on moving him to this 55g I take care of when he got a little bigger anyways.
