GBTA shrinking overnight

I have a GBTA for 2 weeks in a 125 gal tank that has 2 6' Actinics and 2 6' Actinic white VHO bulbs. I put it in the bottom of the tank when I got it and it had moved to the top of the L.R. by the next day where it has stayed since. It was 5" across.Yesterday I came home from work and couldn'd find any trace of it. I moved some of the L.R. and found it. It is now about 1-1.5" across hidden in a crevice.
During the day he had switched out the 2 Actinic Whites for 2 AquaSuns as the bulbs were at least 1 year old .
He didn't notice at the time if the GBTA was on top when he did it.
Is it unusual for the anemone to shrink like that?

No, my bubble tip shinks up a coue times a day and then expands again. I have 4 of them actually and they all do this. I wouldn't mess with him though and I would leave the lights alone once your find the setup you want. The Anemone will find a place it likes and get situated

kkdoughboy,
Its not good for an anemone to shrink up 1 to 2 times a day.Now if it was just lik eonce a week I would then not be worried.

micromount,
At this point I would not be worried. It is common to have this happen when the lights are changed out. With the anemone being under your old light for 2 weeks and then going to a brighter bulb the anemone was probobly acclimateing to the new lights.I would not be worried to much now just keep an eye out.

Anemones "shrink" all the time. Most of the time its just the anemone expelling waste (being that their mouth is also their anus), but it is also a reflex action anemones use when they feel stressed. Stress is a natural thing in the ocean and even more so in an aquarium. Changes in salinity via evaporation or top off, a roudy fish or invert getting too close, or just sand that drifts onto it will all cause the "shrinking" from my experience. I have had a RBTA that has split twice in that last 2 years and still going good.

My wife noticed my Black and White Angelfish nipping at one of the anemones last night. Normal for Angelfish?
Flame Angel doesnt bother them.

Do you have a name or picture of the angle? I know all the dwarf anglefish that I have had will nip at clams, corals and even the oral disk of an anemone. They do this to feed on the waste from the anemone. As the waste comes out they go and get a free meal. I think they learn that if they make the anemone retract, more waste becomes visible and available.
