I was walking thru my lfs, to get something for the 29g system I had. then I saw a tank that my wife would approve of.

I thought about it all night, made a plan, made a few alternative plans, rearranged all the furniture in the living room, and made a deal with the devil. I promised the wife to remodel the kitchen, before building the tank. The next morning I bought the tank. A few days later it came home, destined to sit in the back yard for a bit, until I finished the kitchen.

About a week into the kitchen remodel, a friend decided to break down his 90G, I found myself in a place to get a hippo for $20. I couldn't pass it up, the wife agreed. So the tank came to the front burner. I put the hippo in the 29 for the time being. The next day drilled the bottom, set up the plumbing inside the tank, and built the overflow box.

Fortunately, I had procured items during the week of the kitchen remodel. I set the base rock with epoxy, then moved the live rock from the 29 to seed the base rock. Added the used sand from another tank, obviously cleaned thoroughly. Then added saltwater. I filled the tank improperly according to most. but by pumping the water in via hose onto the rock, I had minimal sand movement.

I chose to center a 16" overflow box in the upper portion of the tank, I ran the two drains down thru the bottom of the tank and directly into the sump. I decided to go with a Jecod 12000 return pump. Damn, this thing moves some water!! I also decided to pvc all of the piping for the returns.

My center rock work will hold mostly montiporas and some tbd later sps. I plan to do come coverage with chalices and some zoas. I managed to get most of it to wrap around the main drain area and slope somewhat outward, but still left room behind to scrape the back. I'm still working on the rock work at this point, but aren't we all always moving stuff around.

I decided to model my sump after a Tsunami style sump. I got most of the material from a local acrylic shop that does lots of work for the govt. Hindsight being what it always is, I should have used thicker material, at least for the longer spans in the front and back.It bowed a bit when I filled it, Im going to be careful not to move it in any way, I don't want to burst a joint.

I found a local guy getting rid of a diablo 2500, with a new impeller pump. I scooped it up along with a 4 stage BRS 75 GPD ro/di unit for $200. Ive been running this thing for about a month now and it is a beast.

As of a few days ago this is where I stand. I've built a canopy and stained it to match. I'm running 150W DE Metal Halide and a Coralife 4 bulb T5. A few new birds nest and still trying to figure out where to put all the frags I bought in the last few months.

This is a 110g. Its 48"x 15"x 30". It is a bit of a pain to get to the bottom, but the water volume is nice and tall. The sump is 36"x15"x15"
