Gem Tang $2900.00?!?!? PIC

That's a nice looking fish but it blows my mind that people would spend 3k on it. Even if i was Bill Gates i dont think i'd spend 3k for that fish.

Like i said, nice looking but considering you can get a Blonde Naso, Achilles or Powder blue for $50-150, 3k is INSANE for that fish! Imo, those fish are as nice or at least very close in looks to the gem.

yes i agree, much rather have achillies! ok, sdguy, i didnt mean to touch an insecure subject for you lol, what i was saying is, if i lost a 3,000 fish, it would be a BIG deal to me, Not just because i just lost a living creature in my care, but because there went 3,000 down the drain on a stupid fish. Now if i was a millionare, then i wouldnt care to spend 10,000 on a fish. People on a higher tax bracket dont have to worry about the money issue is all i was saying, i dont think anyone else here ever thought i meant anything about rgard to life.

I think the Achilles and powder blue are both more attractive than that fish. Stick a "rare" tag on something, and people go insane with the price.

Maybe, but they're not as hardy....

Ever price the airfare to Madagascar or Mauritius? Madagascar cost me $2100 4 years ago. I would bet it is easily $3k now. Now try finding a safe diving outfit to dive with and one that will let you collect. Then try dealing with the crazy currents once you are in the water.

This is one fish that is cheaper to buy then collect yourself. If you do want to collect there and make it worth it try locating Centropyge debelious! A few of those and your sitting pretty!!

plus if you look hard enough and are have patiance you can find one for 1500-1800. in rare occasions even 1200.00 this fish is in my fish list just wont pay more than 1500 for it, since 1500 is already a crazy number to pay for a fish but hey what the hell it can be worst i can be blowing it on some other worst addiction. well good luck for those looking for one.

Hard to beat the yellow tang. That is my favorite with the kole second. If the yellow tang was rare or hard to acquire, it would command a ransom.

that is a nice looking one.. i love the blue tint it seems to have.

would love to have one. used to think they were ugly and all that and i used to say it was a purple tang with ich also...but it definitely grew on me :) I think its gorgeous!

Same thing happened with the regal angel!

I really don't get the "purple tang with ich" comparison. How does that beautiful fish look like a fish with ich:confused: And...they're not even Purple
These fish command a high price and thats fair enough imo. They are not for your average reef tank keeper but showpieces for collectors. There are many more fish which command much higher prices and are, again show pieces for collectors.
If people want a tank of damsels fine. If people want a tank of rarities, hybrids, morphs etc then again fine. I would always prefer to be the latter.

Wow! Someone's on their highhorse!

Just because someones tank isnt filled with rare 3k fish doesnt mean it's a tank full of damsels;)

It's a nice fish but the FACT is that it is insanely overpriced. People want it and are willing to be ripped off, so good for them. The cycle continues.

I wasn't on my high horse at all. I think you need to read my post again.
The price isn't ridiculous if you are a collector of rarely available / seen fish. Tanks with easily available fish are also good.

And....I still don't get the Purple Tang with ich thing.

Some "rare" fish combine that attribute with stunning beauty, so I can understand a high price. For that fish, I don't.
