Gem Tang - Sacramento

If anyone in the Sacramento area is looking for a Gem Tang there was one this weekend at Aqua Works. First one I have personally seen in town at a reasonable price (1,900.00). Large, fully bodied. Not lean at all.

Have to say I've not really paid much attention to them. Having seen a few while diving before they always seem different. In their tank it had some nice color and I can see what all the fuss is about.

It was there has of Sunday morning. Figured I'd just pass that along in case anyone in the area is looking.

Well I hate to say it, but they use a linked system, so when 1 tank has a problem........they all do. I have bought fish from them before and all have been infected with some sort of parasite or bacterial infection and perished..... dispite QT. I stop in every now and then and many of the fish are in overcrowded tanks, thin and not to happy. They have a HUGE selection and descent pricing but the livestock quality is just blah. Unless someone ponies up the cash and begins QT right away it will waste away I'd bet. I never had luck with their corals either. Now I just drive my happy butt 2 hours to Neptune Aquatics in San Jose.

Yeah Code - that is true. I was a bit taken aback that it was in that series of tanks. I was hoping it was a new arrival since I didn't see it last weekend.

Neptune Aquatics, huh? I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the name drop. I'll be out in that area towards the end of the month actually.

Oh dude! You haven't heard of Neptune Aquatics in San Jose? They are on 5th St. If you walk out of there broke and unable to make your next mortgage......don't blame me. LOL. Their corals and fish are AMAZING! They carry a wide range of tanks and dry goods as well. The owners and staff and awesome folks. Red Sea, Neptune APEX, Ecotech, Kessil, everything you can imagine. They have a selection af massive tanks all the way down to Nano's, Live Rock, Dry Rock, Plumbing parts, Oh great............now I have to take a drive down there.

Did someone say Gem Tang?

Did someone say Gem Tang?

I stocked my current 300 Gal reef tank almost exclusively with fish and corals from Aquaworkz (See attached section of tank picture) and have had no issues with death or disease. Some of my purchases have included; Brazilian banana eel, Goldflake angel, Moorish idol, Haddoni carpet anemone, Mertensii carpet anemone, Etc... Oh and yes a brand new Gem Tang that is doing great (See my new Gem tang from Aquaworkz in the attached picture)!

I re-read Saf1's post and it sounds like they got another one... I purchased mine from Aquaworkz last week.

Brave having those carpets in there with those fish.
I'd love a few blue, red and purple carpets but I love my gem, black and all my wrasses too much to risk it

Yeah, it was there this past weekend (12th / 13th). It was healthy looking. Nice tank btw. I like the coral mixture. I won't have a carpet but I do have 6 rose bubble tips (which is why I'm in the middle of an upgrade).

Just to note, I'm not bashing the place. That wouldn't be cool. I was just agreeing with Code that they did put it in the chained tank systems (inner circle just behind frag island). That did catch me off guard and I would have thought they put it in the larger tank in the corner near the planted tank. That sort of money on a fish you want the best guarantee possible.

I don't know if that comes with a guarantee or not.

And Code - I will be making a stop there at the end of the month. Thanks again for the heads up. I'm really looking forward to seeing this place :)

Assasi, Your tank and livestock looks amazing. Ya, I unfortunately never had luck with Aquaworkz, but I'm glad you obviously have. Staff there are knowledgeable....maybe I just had bad luck.

I take it you have an Assasi Trigger? Might I ask where you got him?

Yes I do have an Assasi Trigger and had a very difficult time acquiring! I got him from Live Aquaria (The one fish Aquaworkz had a hard time getting for me). I believe there supplier finally got some in last Friday and they may have one or more available this week.
