general warning on dottybacks: they are a problem..

with smaller fishes. They are a problem in a 100 gallon and they are undoubtedly a worse problem in a smaller tank.

I've heard that the orchid dottys are milder, but don't be tricked by their small size. These are one of the few fish I'd class as aggressive no matter the tank size.

I can confirm orchids are milder. I have a captive bred orchid in a 45 gallon with two captive bred clowns and two captive bred pajamas. The benefit with the captive bred orchids is that you get them very small, that combined with adding them to the tank last (which I would recommend) helps to keep them good neighbors (at least in my case. ;) )

I am glad, because they are a gorgeous and nearly unique color, and probably capable of protecting themselves against pushy larger fish. I can say the yellow is definitely a problem.

I personally have always thought the splendid dotty back is one of the prettiest fish out there. But sadly their temperament has kept me from getting one.

I have a neon dotty in my 37 gal. He was put in last though so my Flame Angel, pink spot goby, and clowns put him in his place. He's been in for about a year and doesn't show any signs of aggression.

I have a neon dottyback in my tank, absolutely love it. Great coloration, and temperment. Actually scared of all other tank mates.
