Generator and noise level

I'm thinking of buying a small portable generator to setup a back up sistem to prevent power outages related disasters in my reef.

There are some very cheap for sale in this side of the pond but i susppect they are really noisy.

I saw one with a noise level of 90 LWA (not dB) but i don't have a clue about what this means. Is it real loud or not?

I have neighbours and don't want them to complain about the noise level.

if the power is out and you running a genarator there will be nothing to complain about.... LWA is less than DB I think

The quietest generator is the Honda EU series with the EU3000 being top of the line at 48db. I believe that Yamaha also makes one in the same league. The EU3000 sounds like a car engine running at idle, you can run one indoors and have a normal conversation only 5 feet away from the unit. If you search the net some people have posted Audio clips of these units running while people are talking next to them. BTW normal speech is near 63db so you get and ide of how silent these units are.

Ohhh. Try that at 1am in the morning and see if there are no complaints. :uzi: With a Tank you need to have power 24/7 so noise late at night is a real possibility.

Well, not if you run a power cord to there house it wouldnt be. However, Id expect complaints, if nothing else than that you have power and they dont

I plan on building a 'dog house' for mine, with some noise dampning walls. I figure If Im going to need to run it, it will prob be storming outside and Id want it covered.

Get an EU2000 that will run most tanks (Minus MH) and it is very quiet without the huge price of the EU3000
