generators

So - monsoon season is almost here...

What kind of generators do you guys have to prevent tank catastrophe - oh yeah - and I could run my frig.

I don't use a generator. My power has never been knocked out for more than a few hours at a time... I have my fingers crossed that things stay that way. Really, you only need to worry about temps and circulation. Your tank will be fine without light and filtration for days. But you need to keep the water moving, and keep temps in an acceptable range. You can buy battery operated powerheads to take care of the water circulation issue. That would be cheaper than a generator.

I work construction, so if I have a problem I run over and steal a generator. These suckers are big enough to run anything you need. Never really had the power go out for more that an hour or two though.

We had a 3 day brown out about 10 years ago, Orange Grove and Shannon. Poured a slab and built a Generator hut, 75 amp generator, 60 amp tranfer panel. It ran whole house when we had swamp cooler, now with AC we would buy a portable AC just to knock down the heat. Funny thing is only used it once for about 5 hours on a Sat. morning a few years ago. I run it about 29 minutes a month to keep it lubed and running good. Great peace of mind to know you can watch TV, play on computer, have fridge and microwave, lights and fans. But most of all Reef, FW, and ponds al running normal.

i lost power for 10 hours at glenn and dodge 2 years ago and 5 hours last year. i got it from white cap, look on craigslist im sure you could get a good one for not a whole lot of money right now. to me its worth the money, i spend so much on the 2 tanks i have and watching them die a slow death while power is restored just isnt something i want to do again.
