GEO or MRC Calcium Reactor ?

I'm looking at either the GEO CRX-18 or 24 or the MRC CR-6 and wondering if I can get some feed back from people using one of these Ca reactors or if you love the one you are using. Was it easy to set up, well built, etc?

It's going to be a large purchase either way I go, so I want to make sure I'm getting a good, easy to set up reactor.

What do you think?

i looked iinto both reactors i found that the mrc have no bubble counters and the ones you use on the regulators are not good unless you buy a really good one like 250 and the geo reactors have one built in that is very good as good or better then the one on pm. so i went with the geo its being delievered as we speak.

Thanks powdertang, give me a PM or post on this thread after you get your new reactor and set it up. Just currious to see how easy it was.

How do you dial in a MRC without a bubble counter?

i just bought my geo 2 weeks ago from premium aquatics, set up was so simple, just buy the package deal u get a better price

I was looking at that siding88. Glad to hear that it was simple, that's my worst nightmare, having to screw around with this thing for months.

I, on the other hand, swear by MRC. There is no bubble counter on the reactor, but the regulator does have one. I have had no issues with my regulator or bubble counter whatsoever. Andy at MRC does very very good work.

talk to jason or justin over at premium they will hook you up, like i said if u buy the package deal u save a lot of money, they dont have the geo package on the web, but they will put it togethere for u

IMO you can't go wrong with either one. George and Andy both make beautiful equipment.

As far as setting one up goes... Any calcium reactor you decide to use will be a bit of work at first until you get it set for your tank needs. You will have to check your levels daily for the first few weeks until everything stays at the levels you want them. I would also hit up Menard for some dolomite to stick in there for magnesium.

GEO BABY! the thing is built like a tank and is sooooooooo simple to put together and dial in IMO that's the way to go. I looked at quality and built and def by far GEO is the superior product. If u then consider ease of use def GEO over Korallin and so forth. Anyways my two cents.
I got mnie from THREEFSTOP.com no complaints

I have the mrc cr1 and I love it. it was easy to hook up and it is a set it and forget it. no more adjustments after you get it set for your tank. I also use a ph controller with it.

what size tank are you using this on? You have a 75 gallon tank then you don't need that large of a skimmer. Are you upgrading your tank?

I have a 75 and 30 plumbed into the same sump and I'm looking toward the future. Getting big now will save me in the long run.

Ive had a GEO for that past 2 years and its one of the most solid built CA reactors I have ever seen, it was easy to setup and dial in. only thing is that i have to replace the media, on a 6 month interval, and change out the CO2 tank... easy peasy.

I like the reverse flow of the Geo-style reactors better (have had both). The "extra" CO2 at the top is recycled because the pump actually draws from the tpp rather than the bottom. The built-in bubble counter is great, too.

I have had problems with the bubble counter on the regulators- the water can back flow and cause the regulator/ solenoid to fail.
