Get this.....another shattered tank

I wanted to drill my last intact 55g. It is made by All-Glass, so I contacted them and specifically asked if the sides were tempered; I even gave them the manufacture date. Here is their reply:
"The bottom is the only tempered pane. The sides are not tempered."

So I proceeded to drill the tank and it shatters into a million pieces. Then I emailed them back asking if they were POSITIVE that the sides are not tempered and that mine shattered into a million pieces. Here is their reply:
"The Walmart tank kit has a fully tempered tank but it is indicated throughout the packaging. That is the only 55G that’s fully tempered."

My return reply:
"If I had the packaging, I wouldn't have needed to email you. If there was any chance at all of this tank being fully tempered, I wouldn't have attempted to drill it. That is why I originally emailed."

 How dumb can you get? :mad2:

I didn't even know Wal-mart carried "All-glass" Aquariums, let alon their kits. I thought they carried something like aqua-tech??? I would tell them you want your money back!

from my understanding the aqua-tech is the off brand just like regent is offbrand of marineland. I may be wrong so correct me if i am

I used to work in the pets department at wal-mart on south campbell and I remember carrying there tank kits.

Even though the tank is 20 years old, I wish I would have thought to "return" it before I tore all the plastic trim off and scraped off all the broken glass. Wal-mart probably would have taken it back LOL.

I'm flipping it on its side to make a 55g "breeder" style tank and having a piece of glass cut for it.

When will we learn.
No, it's when will "They" learn?

I guess I'll have to start using "Guaranteed Authentic" contracts every time I ask someone for information or advice, with a $1,000 penalty for breaking it.

"Thank you for the information, now sign here please X_________ ".

John I have some left over glass from one of the broken ones you gave me come see if they will work I have an end a side and the bottom.

There are a few threads on here about 55 gallon tanks being notorious for being fully tempered. I've never seen or even read about a 55 that has been successfully drilled. Avoid them like the plague. Sorry to hear about the tank. They probably hired the fired workers from Lowes and Home Depot that usually have no clue about what they are talking about either. "Tempered glass? Is that like glass with a bad attitude?"

I drilled my 55 gal. Granted I busted the first one which was an All-Glass, I am glad it was free, but I bought another one it was a Oceanic, it is only tempered on the bottom. If I am not mistaken there is only to brands of 55's that you can drill Oceanic being one of them.
