Geting a Shy Tomini to eat

Had my LFS QT Him for a few weeks. Was eating great anything that he put in the tank he would eat. Brought him home last night and he is very very shy. looks great fat and healthy but he just stays hidden in the rock work. When I got home this afternoon he was bouncing around picking at the rock but as soon as I went over near the tank he zipped back in the rocks.

I tried soaking some Hikari Krill in Garlic Xtreme and shooting it with a syringe down towards where he was. Didn't take a nip. After that I tried some Omega one Green veggies on a clip and he never came back out from the rocks.

Just wondering if there are any tricks to getting him out and eating

Also be aware that allot of times these fish will not come out or eat while you are around. I had a kole tang in a QT that would only come out and eat when I was out of the room. The fish may very well be eating. You just may not be seeing it do so. Give him some time, and he will eventually associate you with food...

I took out the algae sheet and ripped it up into small pieces then tossed it into the tank. I figured since he ate the flakes he would eat the algae. This worked as he ate every piece that went near him

I have had good luck with that as well, it's how I got my Achilles weaned onto nori. Once they recognize it as food everything goes uphill. When you get tired of tearing off chunks for him to eat out of the water column, it helps if you rough up what's on the clip so that it is loose and less square.
