getting a clam

2 thumbs and 2 big toes up for Rob at east coast clams.
its HUGE!!!!!
and, it opend up in the container that I was acclimating it in as soon as it got out of the bag.
even though it was below freezing, it made it in great shape, and I get the feeling that I'm getting another from there SOON

its a great blue color. I'm doing more an more research on croceas, and am glad that I did pick it as my first clam. I'm trying to find it the perfect spot (just looking, I'm not moving it around and around in the tank, letting it settle first) and its hard to decide when you have a clam thats 4+ inches (I'm going to take out a tape measure when i move it to its final spot. should be interesting results!!!)

anyone have any suggestions?
the tank specs, btw:
29 gallon glass
250 watt MH (4-5 inches off of water)
2 maxi ph's

green clown gobie
filamented flasher wrasse
PJ cardinal
green maze brain
ummm, another type of brain (I forgot)

2 encrusting monti's and one purple tip/rim monti
galaxia
anthelia
zoos
purple shroom and 2 rics (4 mouths though)
green finger leather
xenia
umm, some other type of coral, i done forgot...
yeah, I forget what I have
oh, and various snails (astrea, nass, lil black ones)
and couple starfish. couple little tiny hitchicker type, one mini reticulated serpent, and one big, HUGE serpent star

anyone here see anyproblems? (other than me forgetting what the heck i have in my tank!!!)

Well Ive read of some people saying its a chance to risk clams and serpent stars. I really dont know if its true. Hows your temp? I have the same tank and same lights, just wondering. Any pics of the tank and clam?

the temp was fluctuating fairly badly during the day vs the night, so i turned up the heater. now the fluctuation is about 1 degree (80-81 sometimes 82)

hmmm, I'll do a search for serpent stars. luckily he'll be EASY to take out if need be.

I have the brat trained to take food from my fingers and to come out of the rocks to do it

oh, and no pics, don't have a camera.

someday, soon... I'll steal my mums again

first report (without any other info) of a serpent eating a clam:

most people don't mention serpents eating clams... interesting. I don't think that they'd beable to pry open a healthy clam. yes, there are stars that will eat healthy clams...
gonna do more research!!! and its not a green one. I wouldn't have looked at it twice if it was. its brown with black stripes

You have a tiger striped serpent star just like mine. I only gave you the heads up cuz I asked in here after reading about it on a Live Aquaria catalog. Till now I havent seen the star come near it. In the Live Aquaria catalog, on there clam page, the give the description of the clam burying itself into the sand as to protect itself from predators such as star fish and butterfly fish. Its on the description of the Crocea clam.

wow, i didn't get the alert to you replying until today

anywhos, yeap, thanks!!!

my heater malfunctioned, so now my tank is at about 75. I don't know how bad its going to go up, hopefully not too bad since i have a pendant now (before I had a hooded one, and it heated up the tank)

I also put the clam in its forever spot. it looks alittle happy (dunno yet though!!!)
