Getting a Maldives Regal to eat

I took scribble out and put it in my fuge
The scribble came out of hiding
I have pieces of pvc it can hide in

nice. it was the scribbles tank and she didn't want visitors. glad to hear things might have turned the corner. i to would love to get a conspic

Yes all the fish are in the same QT. Copper running at 0.2

I put some clam in the tank this morning and pulled up a chair watching the tank for about ten minutes. The regal stay face down, in the upper corner near the filter. The clam was on bottom of tank below it. When all of the fish swam to the other side of the tank. The regal went down and took a bite out of the clam. The went back to its postion.

I am wondering if the fish is hiding from the others? I am happy to see that it took a bite. I am not ruling out possibility of swim bladder. I just did not see the fish do this at the store. I am wondering if it is afraid of the scribble. The scribble is much bigger than it.

the scribble by the way has been in QT since 8/16. I am thinking i could move it into the my huge. I have added some new additions after the Scribble. I know this resets the QT clock. None of the fish have any signs of disease and they have all except regal been there for over two weeks.

Mike - Did the scribble harass the regal? How big is your sohal? I missed that part, lol. That's probably the culprit, I'd lose him fast.

Yes I caught the Scribble nipping at the regal once but did not put two and two together. Now that scribble is out the regal actually comes out of its hiding spot and swims with the PB and sohal.

The sohal is about 4 inches but the fish just swims back and forth..it is not really interested with the others. just interested in swimming i mean swimming at fast speeds.. amusing in away.

My scribble is so timid I wish it was more bold.
The new regal got rapid hyposalinity in 6 hours from 1.020 to 1.008 no problem.I typically don't do it like this but I have a tore up x hatch on the qt and I don't want to contaminate the other new fish. I am playing with russian roulette with velvet though by doing this :(

Good luck with your regal, is it eating pellets yet?
All of my new fish is already eating pellets the next day except for the blonde naso it have a reputation not to eat anyway:( The only one still reluctant to eat Pellets on my main tank is the scribble but she eats a lot of Asian market large mysis.

Regal

Regal

Uggh this morning i see the regal has some white dots on it. It has ICh. the other two fish don't show any noticeable signs of ich

I tested my copper and it was reading close to 0.3 from the color chart. I decided to step the copper up a little. Going to add a few more drops of cupramine to get copper in 0.3 to 0.5 range

Lawrence, no fish is not touching pellets. Very finicky. I have been trying clams, Dr G reef banquet, mysis and red blood worms. In addition I have put a couple pellet in tank but none of the fish are going for it.

The two tangs are eating nori, and some mysis.

Clams is not doing anything for me but spiking my ammonia level.

If it were me, I'd find a way to get him in his own tank. The move to another tank might kill him, but he's probably going to die a slower / stressful death.

If you want to crazy with it, I'd add something like a cleaner goby - Bob fenners a big fan of biological cleaners & I've seen its effect on relaxing stressful fish. It sounds like your other fish are handling the copper treatment well - are you going to ramp up the copper on them too or are you going to move them? I hope things turn around for you & the regal.

Thanks for information. But I do not believe in cleaner anything. I will continue the course with copper. Fish seems to be okay. It is not the first bought of ich I have dealt with.

as far as my experience has shown me there are only three proven treatment for ich.
1) Tank transfer,
2) Copper
3) Hypo-salinity

Fish are all looking okay.
Regal actually starting to nibble at different foods. I will keep my fingers crossed. I might actually consider tank transfer. Just dont want to do too much too soon.

Just for the record - I didn't mean that the "cleaner" would cure ich. I was implying that fish that are easily stressed or sensitive find "comfort" with a cleaner around, hoping your regal would relax enough to eat. But it's good to hear he's sampling food now :) good luck!!

Cleaner wrasse helps but not a cure fish tends to be more relax when they are around

Copper needs to be at least 0.35ppm to have an effect on ich. It's best to run at 0.5 to guarantee a good kill rate.

I know I should not speak on anecdotes. It has been my observation that since i increased the concentration of the copper the fish seems a little more lively. I have a long road ahead of me here. I have a horrible track record with these fish. This is my third attempt at a Regal. Hope third time is a charm.

I will be very reluctant on copper @ 0.5 on angels
Also if the ick show now i wont worry about it, it will fall off in a day or 2
My regal have some shows up today too but I can not concern.

I usually do 0.4ppm but 0.5ppm will be ok too if you raise it slowly. I've never had a fish including large angels reacting to 0.5ppm if its raised slowly.

Maldives Regal

Maldives Regal

Update...
Copper at 0.4 no signs of ich... Regal started eating got it to eat using live black worms.

Tonight I fed some frozen.. really did not go for it.
I put a couple of flakes of cobalt spiruliana flakes in and the Regal started hitting the flakes. They are green.

I am taking this as a good sign.

Fish looks really good...keeping fingers crossed
