Getting Anemone to Move

My bubble tip has its foot in a hole on a live rock. I have slowly shaved off some of the rock to make the hole less deep so I can perhaps get a credit card under it, but its difficult working around the anemone. Now I'm trying the powerhead method. I have a strong powerhead aiming straight the anemone. It has been 24hrs and it has not moved. Also I have left the lights off, make the spot as unfavorable as possible. Is this too much? Has a bubble tip ever not move and died due to unfavorable conditions?

Perhaps I should do the ice cube method (holding the ice close to the anemone but not touching it).

Advice please. I'm trying to sell this bubble tip, but want to keep the rock.

I have tried this method in the past with SOME success so perhaps you can give it a shot....

  • 1 - remove the rock with the BTA on it and hold it upside down over your tank with the BTA hanging down. Be careful to not have BTA retreat back into it's hole.
  • 2 - hold the rock over the water line and allow a small portion of the BTAs tentacles to touch the water.
  • 3 - Continue until the BTA releases it's foot hold on the rock and releases itself in order to submerge itself in the water.

FWIW, there is no guarantee that this will work and it may take some time so patience is key here....you may also need to attempt this more than once if you get tired of holding the rock...LOL

GL ;)

I held the anemone upside down for 10-15 minutes out of the water. On the 3rd attempt, I used ice to help get the anemone off.

Being out of the water for so long, I immediately put the anemone into the holding tank. Its now attached to a piece of rock rubble and 3/4 from being fully extended. Seems like a stubborn but hardy anemone.

THanks
