Thanks, he is showing up later today!
I don't know many that keep these fish, are they active?
This is only based on my indigo hamlet experience, but yes they active and out in the open a lot. The tank he is in has fairly peaceful tankmates though (most aggressive things in the tank are a Kole tang, Lawnmower blenny, and marine betta). The hamlet was extremely timid for the first month, but then he settled in and is out and about all of the time (have read other people have had similar experience). The other problem I had around that time was a food hogging spaz of a foxface that was freaking everyone out. Once I removed the foxface, I saw my fish including the hamlet all of the time.
I've been thinking about trying one for a while, what do you like about them?
Where to start...

- The fact that mine has been active and out in the open is a huge plus
- The coloring is gorgeous (even the less colorful ones IMO)
- They are fairly easy to keep (no special feeding requirements or water requirements),
- They are peaceful fish (I do not like aggressive, bully type fish)
- Unless the inverts are really small (i.e. can fit in their mouth like sexy shrimp), they leave them alone.
- They are a great reef occupant as they do not mess with corals at all.
- They are really fun to watch eat IMO. Mine is so quick when he goes to grab his choice peace of krill or food pellet.
- Their body type is uncommon in most reef tanks, making them stand out a bit.
