Getting better white balance on iPhone

While I was playing around with my phone today while my DSLR was charging I noticed that if you start the camera app while the phone is pointed at the tank, you get a much more accurate white balance. If you start the camera app and then point the phone towards the tank you will always get a blue tint.

Tank is lit by 2 Phoenix 14k bulbs and is nowhere near as blue as the second pic shows.

Great tip! I never noticed it before. Does anyone else have any tips on taking better pictures with the iPhone 5/5s? I have been trying to get decent ones but you can always tell it's a camera phone shot.
