getting ready to make tank purchase

anyone with words of advice or know of anyone that has a setup they are wanting to part with. I have been researching for about 2 months, stopped in at the various saltwater fish stores a couple of times and am finally ready to get in. I found sixline's 72g yesterday and almost had myself convinced to get it but it was gone by today.

Are you guys totally against a 24 all in one or should I just get a tank and build from the ground up.

Any help is majorly appreciated.
 
The more water volume you have, the better your tank will handle a problem. (Dillution is the solution to pollution).

Besides that, after you set up the 24, one of the first things you will say is, "Man I have room for a lot bigger tank. I wish I would have bought the XXX gallon tank. lol
 
There is nothing wrong with going with an aquapod or something similar. I would suggest not going any smaller then the 24 if you chose an all in one.

I would personally prefer to just get a tank and choose exactly what equipment I use. Having to pick your own equipment can be more confusing if you are just starting out though.

Luckily there are lots of folks here willing to help/make suggestions if needed.

Do you know what kind of fish you plan on keeping? This will be a deciding factor for what size tank is appropriate.
 
I agree with Matt, make sure you get at least a 24 that way you have enough room to have a few fish and a great place for coral if you are going that way. You don't need a million gallons to be successful in this hobby. But man how we all want that million gallon tank, but hard as we try it just wont fit through the door :)
 
Having a huge fish load really isn't a big concern of mine. I really just want a coral filled tank with maybe a clown and a shrimp goby thats why I have been leaning towards a smaller all in one. I've stopped in at the more notable stores from Cross Lanes to Ashland and all have said quit worring, research and go with it. So I guess thats what I need to do. I have been procrastinating since December on how I want to set it all up.
 
I set up a 38 gal quarantine tank with CF lighting, Seaclone skimmer, an AquaClear 500 (110) powerfilter filled with carbon and biomax (porous ceramic rings), and a small hang-on UV sterilizer. Although it's for QT, it's really great for softies, BTA's (they reproduced), clowns, small wrasses and other critters.
This is a pretty neat, inexpensive setup. Easy to maintain as well.

Thank goodness! I been thinking about this tank every other day since I learned about it. I'm glad someone got it so I will not be tempted any longer.

Have you considered the Cadlights setup? I do not have one but everything I read has been positive. They now even have a 34G version of it.
 
I set up a 120 a year ago (I love it) but now I want a 380 :) We are in the process of building a new home and I was making plans to have a 380 in the wall :) I am not able to do so now, but that was a dream, my reason for sharing...get the largest you can afford (afford meaning not what you can actually purchase, but what you can afford to actually set up and run...sand, rocks, fish, salt, fuge/sump, pumps...)
