Hi, just joined the hobby about 2 months ago when I purchased an established tank... Didn't realize it would be so much work (compared to bigger tanks) but I've learned a lot about the dynamics of such a small system! Love finding something new about my tank every day

Hello everyone, my name is Mike. I was searching this forum today and came accrossed this section. I have been keeping freshwater fish since I was 5, but about a year ago finally made the move to saltwater. Im a network admin for the military, so while I am home I split my time between my family and my tanks. For now I have a 75 gallon with a few corals, 2 Clowns, 1 Neon Dottyback, 1 Coral Beauty, and 1 Kaudern's Cardinal. My tank has a small bubble and hair alage out break that happened last time I was away. It is starting to get under control now that I am back. I had more rock in my tank, but do to the out break I removed about half of the rock to clean, and ended up keeping it out because my new project is a 240 in which that rock is now being used for the start of that tank.

I have been wanting to post on her for a while but haven't had a chance. My name is Cameron and I am a masters student at UofA's ME department. I got into reefs about 3 years ago starting with a 20L rimless that was recently upgraded to the tank shown in the pics. Unfortunately, all of the livestock (was mostly an LPS tank) was completely killed by a MJ pump running a BRS reactor. It shorted internally and must have leaked some sort of metal. I battled RTN and STN on all corals for months before braking down the tank and starting over. The tank has gotten a lot of upgrades in the process and is stocked with SPS. Its approximately 1 month post cycle. A few shots for those interested.

Brett, how does the auction work? I know its at Fishy Business. Do we have to bring our own frags to swap? (hope not because I am just restocking my tank) Do you bring cash I assume? Do people put corals into the tanks at the store? Just curious I have never been to a frag swap before.

You don't have to bring frags to swap. When you show up you get a bidder/seller#. All the corals/fish/inverts/macro that are brought are layed out on a table for display in small tupperwares with water from the seller's tank. The auctioneer will go through one by one and people can bid on them. Someone keeps track of the price they go for, seller's #, and buyer's #, and at the end you settle up with the auctioneer. Who then totals out and pays the sellers. You don't have to buy anything if you don't want. Fun times, great, knowledgeable people, usually free food, and raffle prizes. Definitely worth coming to if you can.

Thanks for the complements wade. When I designed the setup I really focused on minimizing wires around the rim. The only wire on the rim you can see (hydor nano) will likely in the future be replaced by a second mp10.
The sump area was a challenge however. Because the tank sits exactly flush with the stand I had like 17x23in to work with. Getting everything in there, organized, and function properly took for ever. I had to add exhaust fans to pull the humidity out of the sump area.

Although I joined RC last year, I don't think I've ever introduced myself in this forum. I've been in the saltwater hobby for a few years now with my first tank being a Oceanic BioCube 29. Made a lot of mistakes with that tank and I eventually converted my freshwater 75 gallon to a FOWLR tank filtered poorly with a couple of Fluval canister filters. After that debacle, I drilled that same tank and installed an overflow system from Glass Holes, added a Sunpower ATI fixture and I was off and running with a reef tank. Decent results there, but wanted a cleaner look and with the great help from the guys at Fishy Bizness here in Tucson, set up my current DSA 105. Love that tank! Currently restocking with select fish and corals. I really like zoanthid colonies and am trying hard to make them grow out.
