GFO and carbon in same NextReef reactor?

I recently bought a pair of NextReef media reactors to replace my problematic BRS reactors. They are a bit bigger than I was expecting, to the point where I can only fit one in my stand.

Any reason I can't run GFO and carbon in a single reactor? I could use the foam filters/media tray from the other reactor to separate the media.

Only reason is to try and tweak the volumes so you change them on the same interval... Otherwise from a functional standpoint it makes no difference

Potentially, different flow rates. People like to get GFO enough flow to tumble it gently. Doing that much flow with carbon will result in a black dusty mess throughout your system as it breaks down since it's softer. Also as SkiFletch implied, different change intervals (typically, carbon more frequently than GFO).

Did you see Cully's recent thread about his carbon "massager?" Something like that might solve the problem. Use that for carbon, and keep the single reactor for GFO.
