GFO/carbon reactors get clogged up

my reactors get clogged pretty quickly if I don't run a pre-filter on the pump that is driving them. I want to start running them off of my return pump, so a pre-filter is not an option. Does anyone else have this problem or a suggestion to help prevent it?

I usually mix my carbon and GFO together and don't tumble them, if that makes a difference.

How much gfo/carbon are you putting into your reactor? I have found if you pack the material too tight your flow will be bad.
