GFO dust in tank

Has anyone else the issue of GFO dust entering the tank and making it unsightly?

I did some heavy rinsing using tank water and RO/DI, yet after couple of days it looks as if everything (inclu. powerheads, sand, etc.) has turned into the color of GFO.

It is really frustrating!

hmmmm....what brand gfo? I have been using some cheap "Fritz" brand. I rinse it for a few seconds, and ive never had a problem. Im sorry i cant offer any help.

Are you sure its not diatoms? It can look like GFO. Brown and dusty looking. Mainly gets on powerheads and sand.

I was using Pura Phoslock, and you really have to rinse it well. Most of the time when I would do a water change I would rinse it with a couple of gallons of tank water.I never had it stain any of my powerheads, sand, etc.I since have changed to Bulk Reef Supply GFO,it doesnt require no where near the rinsing Pura Phoslock did.

Oh well...

Hope phoslock isn't toxic to fish & corals, especially long term.

Gotta clean up the sand and rock... *sigh*

im 99.9999% sure it isn't diatom. I know what they look like and the color in the tank is exactly the color of the media.
