GFO plumbing question

My question is what are the downsides to having a GFO reactor plumbed into the return line?

I would prefer to not have it with its own dedicated pump, in order to save having to take up another outlet.

If the downsides, if any, are negligible then the GFO will be tee'd off the return line with a ball valve. Which seems like a reasonable option on my 57g mixed reef I am plannign

That is how I have mine set up. Tee off the return to the GFO, ending in the fuge (which spills back to the return). There is a possibility that changes in flow will occur due to the reactor inline like that, but I haven't had any issues so far.

No downsides to doing it that way if your pump has enough power. I have a manifold setup off my return line that feeds a GFO reactor, Carbon reactor and a display refugium. All of which drain back to the sump. The only thing I would suggest is that you use a gate valve instead of a ball valve so you can fine tune the flow. A ball valve doesn't all for easy enough fine tuning and you want your GFO to barely tumble at the surface which requires minute adjustments to get it right.

Great! Thanks. Wanted to make sure I wasnt setting myself up for something less than ideal.

I was actually picturing a gate valve, but said ball valve on my initial post. Thanks for the correction
