Thanks everyone.

That rock work is impressive. Do you have a build thread for this tank?

Rodney your pics are stunning. :D

What is your current thought/feelings on the Mitras and your tank? Are you still enjoying them as much as you had expected?

Clearly Mitras is able to maintain colour and growth, but in all fairness, rodneyri has the whole package happening in his tank, including a well programmed Mitras. Bravo!

Flagswipe rocks look like they are from aquaroche. They are beautiful rock formations, just tough to find. And a little pricey. I have been trying to find some that suit my needs. Have not found any yet

They are from Ceramico. It is very inexpensive in my opinion. Send them a sketch and they will make you anything you want or pick from their pre made pieces. Im very happy withe mine, takes longer for the biology to get started in my experience but if you are patient it will pay off!

Good to all. I submitted my name is Jonathan and i am from Spain. I have a marine aquarium corals mixed with sps, lps and a few fish. The ballot box main measured 170x70x60cm (long - wide- high), and currently is illuminated with an ATI display Sunpower of 8x80w. Took some weeks exploring change lighting and transitioning to the leds, and of all the screens that i have seen that I like most is the Mithras.
After following this post and any more that I have seen by the forums i have been astonished with the screen, but I have the following questions. Taking into account that I don't like the sps but also the lps, which the rock starts 20cm from the glass and that only i will keep the SPS in the area and medioalta high, how many screens would you recommend I put on my system?

by far the best LEDs out there.

how many would I need to light up the same area as a 10x80W t5s ?

basically tank of 66"x22"x24" ... 22" is front to back.

You should be good (your exact results may vary) using a pair of them parallel with the font & back of the tank. I mean like this

= =

so 2 units wont cover my tank back to front, neither side to side ... would love to know some realistic numbers on how many are needed to light up same area as 10 x 80 W T5s.

Allmost, I am in the same situation, I have 200 gallons with a few measures of 68 "x28" x24 " and not all the units I need

yea thank you. so how many are you using ? I think 3-4 at least needed for lighting the whole thing. not just some of my corals/ parts of my tank/

I wish ppl with experience replied to help others rather than ppl guessing !

Allmost & Jony, I think you've both been given some rock solid #'s. There are at least a couple of SPS tanks that are around 36" x 30" which are using a single Mitras to cover completely.

Allmost that would get you up to a tank around 72" x 30" and your tank falls well under those specs. Yes indeed 2 units would cover your tank. It's not the size of the light fixture that matters but the COVERAGE of the unit. These units have a PHENOMENAL coverage area to say the least. Remember the light doesn't come just straight down with the sides of the fixture but leaves in a reverse cone pattern. These units really do pack a big punch.

For the 170x70x60 personally I would use 4 lights mounted | | | | over the tank that would give gull coverage and SPS anywhere in the tank You could use three but don't pack SPS to the edges

Big al .... not gonna get into optics and how light travels in a medium :) but light travels in a straight line ....

but seriously ... I have to ask ... is this from your personal experience with mitras over a large tank ? can we see some pics of your set up with the mitras ?

I see Rodney's 160 G using 3 units ....

I dont see how u can say the person with personal experience is wrong :) [jony]

once again, my question was, how many would light up my whole tank, meaning every mm of my tank being lit, question was not "what is the minimum I can get away with"

I hope this is not part of the "advertise for us for free upgrade"

Rodney, thank you for your help. you have a beautiful reef and show what these fixtures can do.
