Giant Bristle Worm Creates Red Plume

I've never seen anything like this before. I was doing some cleaning on the tank when all of a sudden there appeared a giant swirling vortex of what looked like a few ounces of dark red dye. The cloud was baseball sized before it dissipated into the water column. I looked to see the tail or nose of what I approximate to be about a 6 inch bristle worm retreating into a hole in the rock work.

Anybody ever seen something like this before?

My largest bristleworm/fireworm (I couldnt clearly see) was about 20 centimetres. It's still in the tank somewhere and am sometimes a little worried for my small fish sleeping in the rocks

YES I have... TWICE!!! 2 different times, I had a huge bristleworm spawn in my old tank....it was during the dusk lighting... all of a sudden as I was looking at the tank, all of the bristleworms, big ones, small ones... all of them, began to poke their tailends up out of holes in the rocks and all began to release this thick pinkish red smokelike spawn....it was like a chain reaction... one began and then all of them started...it went on for several minutes and when it ended the tank was cloudy. My skimmer went absolutely NUTS...like I said, I have had this same thing happen 2 different times...anyone else?

And what would cause this to happen... what is the trigger for them to all start this??

amazing..15 years in this hobby and i have never heard or seen anything like this! too bad you couldnt have got a few pics or a video!
