Giant Green Anemone ate a chalice frag.

So I got home from work today to find my chalice missing and my anemone being a bit mis-shapen.
Turns out the bastard ate a beautiful Hollywood stunner chalice frag that I hadn't reef glued down yet since I couldn't decide where I wanted it.
It should have been completely out of the nems reach but maybe one of my turbos bulldozed it into his reach or something.

Does anyone know if the anemone is going to be okay? Does the coral digest completely or is he going to spit out the skeleton?
The frag was about a 55mm (2.2 inch) frag. It sucks losing the frag but I'm more worried about the nem, its my pride and joy in that particular tank.
:( :worried2:

Sorry to hear. But that's pretty epic. I hope the nem is okay. I just imagined the Baraka WINS sound but with Anemone WINS!

It would be super epic (even though it is an expensive meal) if the nem was perfectly fine from doing it.

Okay, so I tried to get some pictures but the anemone is not being cooperative, and my phone camera really sucks for taking pictures into my tank. the nem tried to spit the frag out but its stuck in his mouth now. I assume he ate it vertically and his mouth only had to stretch one direction but it seems it is stuck in his mouth horizontally now.

What do I do to save the Nem at this point? Hes not looking so great right now. Do I just give it time?

wow, that's a bummer! my scolies and trachies like to eat snails in my reef tank. i let them go for a week or so normally. occasionally they will eat one that gets stuck when they try to spit it out. i have a pair of long stainless steel forceps that i use to gently pry open the mouth and turn the snail shell in order to remove it. that's not with a carpet, but you might be able to use the same technique.

are you able to open the mouth a little to look at the frag? if so, maybe you could use a pair of bone cutters to snip the frag into smaller pieces and remove it. just a thought... may the force be with you....

Not too worried about the nem. Nems are essentially shapeless and if he wants to get it out he will be able to contort his body accordingly, in fact he may just expel his entire stomach.

Well here's an update. The Nem tore his mouth open a bit trying to spit the frag out, but he eventually spit it out. The chalice looks absolutely horrid and a good portion of it is dead but I think a small part survived.

I'm guessing it broke a bit inside him and then the sharp edge cut him on the way out. I hope it didn't damage his stomach/internals at all.

I'm pretty sure I shouldn't feed him until his mouth heals correct?

Correct, I would wait a week or two before you feed your anemone.
