Gift Exchange tonight

Don't forget to bring a gift for the gift exchange. Target value of $10-15. You are of course welcome to be generous this time of year and spend more.

Paul votes for alcohol, but I wanted to give a preview of the gift I'm bringing.

Hydor Koralia Nano, new in box for someone lucky!!!

Pete, the idea is to keep it a secret so no one knows who's to open  Make sure you don't put your name on the gift.. GENIUS

Now you have to find a different shape box so no one knows what it is :) you know, like the refrigerator box I got one year, with a gift cerfiticate on the bottom of 10 pounds of packing peanuts  (what a mess - good thing I was 10)

I want to create excitement. Plus if everyone blows the price limit by double then we'll have an awesome time, right? This is a steal the present sort of thing, correct?

Oh, for the new members...

Nice idea on the map Pete. That should help a few people as the Round Table is not visible from Greenback.
Just remember, for those of you who have not been there before, if you hit the Greenback/Madison intersection, TURN RIGHT.

I can't keep secrets!

I can't keep secrets!

If we are open about what we are bringing to the white elephant, maybe it will encourage others to join in the festivities!

I'll be bringing a brand new LOA fuge light.

Hopefully, there are other similarly shaped boxes, so it isn't so obvious.

PS: what are the White Elephant rules? I've seen it played many different ways.

Good question! Have the rules been set up yet? I know everytime I have participated in a White elephant gift exchange there is always some kind of disagreement about the rules.

Oh and great map Pete! I am just glad I carpooled for my first meeting. I probably never would have found it with the directions I had from google.

I'll defer to the powers that be, but I believe after a gift is selected, the next person can either steal that gift, or open a new gift. A gift can generally not be re-stolen during the same "turn" otherwise the game lasts for hours and we are going to run late as it is.

I believe that is how it goes down, but if that is what we are going to do, it is going to be a long meeting.

Is there a schedule for tonight? It seems like it might last into the wee hours.

Also - there should be a limit on how many times a gift can be stolen. Maybe 2 times? Otherwise the white elephant will run late.

I suggest that we do the raffle before the white elephant. That what those who have to leave early can do so. Maybe do the grand prize raffle at 9PM? That way people still have to stick around, but they don't have to stick around until late in the evening for the grand prize.

I vote for the GP to be at the end. Must be present to win!!!

:D

:) Great Idea :)

And before the drawing we should have a very long discussion of the calcium cycle in anoxic reef biotopes!

:) I bet I can stay as long as you. :)

Don't get me wrong, I am going to take part in the gift exchange. But there is no way I am staying past 10 PM with my daughters in attendance. I think it's reasonable to do most of the raffle first, but agree that the GP will be done at a reasonable time (9PM?).
