Gig or haddoni?

Gigs can be identified by their tentacle movements, especially if the flow is low. No other anemone I have seen so far has a similar "waving" motion of individual tentacles.

It's a gig. You can tell by though mouth and the tentacles are too long for a haddoni. Doesn't look terrible but will definitely need treatment imo. Local or online? Not sure if shipping that one would finish it off.

It's about an hour drive, found the seller on CL believe it or not. He was advertising carpet anemones and BTAs. I was debating trading my Mag for it that is 100% healthy and has been in captivity for over 3 years but if the gig is sick it's not worth it for me. I don't have the time or space to treat unfortunately.

He said there's no dots on the foot, could it still be a gig? I'm confused lol

The foot is what got me thinking it's a Haddoni. When stressed Haddonis can look like gigs. The foots color and it's size are very typical of Haddoni. Haddonis prefer a sandbed. The fact that the anemone is currently in a bare bottom (?) or low light/flow tank explains why it chose the rock.

The little pink area on the mouth looks very much like a gigantea to me, but I agree with you about the foot.

With gigs you always have to be prepared to treat. Even if you buy a healthy one, it can get sick just on the trip from the store to your home.

Here are a few more pics. Seller said he's had it 3 months. The foot does look more like haddoni to me. Cant be a good sign the it detached from the rock it was on. Tentacles in the last pic seem long for a haddoni though. Might be too far gone to save this one

I have never seen a gigantea with red or pink "lipstick" only yellow or the same color as the oral disk.

That's strange, my blue and brown gig have pink on the mouth but it's only visible when the mouth is a little open.

Are you talking about the siphonoglyph that is/are exposed when the mouth is open? My gigs typically have a purplish hue.

When we refer to the mouth and "lipstick" we're referring to the color right around the opening, like lipstick. :lol2:

Yea, didn't know the name but you can see it on the second pic in this thread. Never saw that on a haddoni but that may just be because I haven't seen many haddoni that were gaping enough to show it.

Glad he got back to you, totally flacked on me lol but looking at the pics I'm glad he did. He told me he had it a month btw so if you buy, buy with caution.

A good picture of the column is what you need for ID, to tell the different between Haddoni and Gigantea.
