Gig under ai sol

Recently been talking to an importer of gigs. He had forme the opinion in his acclimating period yet they didn't react well to aisol lighting so he reverted back to t5 lighting. Has anyone else expiranced this?

I think several people here have Gigantea under LED light with no problem. I myself have them under MH. They just need a lot of light.

I personally have mine under t5... But I prefer MH myself.

My next tank is going to be a 4x4 cube with MH.

LEDs are nice for corals as it makes their colors pop out more but for nems ill stick to t5/MH.

I have my gig under a Gen 1 Radion, and it's fine. I can't imagine gigs not reacting well. Actually, for acclimation, it's probably a good thing to have them under LEDs (assuming they are controllable such as the AIs) since the output can be easily adjusted. However, gigs in particular can be blasted with light, so any high output light should do, metal halide probably being the best.

Out of curiosity, is this the same importer that quarantines each gig in individual holding containers?

Yep same guy.

He noticed a quick improvement as soon as he put the t5s on, this is after 3weeks under ai sols.

Stickleback has a theory, that it may be due to flow or the lack of flow+leds (concentrated beams of light) that the gigs didn't like. Which i'm begining to think must be true if lots of people are reporting their gigs are fine under leds.

While I'm nowhere near as knowledgable as I need to be on lights & LEDs I think I have found the issue & it's fairly simple. The importer has the sols 18" above the tanks & set to w30 b80 ry80 which for me is way too much blue and will be a massive change in spectrum to what they are used to naturally. Surely they'd happier with the whites higher than the blues? So too little light accompanied by the wrong colour could that be causing the issue?
