Gigantea problems

I'm a lurker and have been following many of the gigantea threads. Thought I'd start one of my own because things aren't working out and something strange happened. Bought two giganteas on 8/8. Will only show the one not doing well. The other I'll show if it makes it past the 1 month mark. Here is a photo from 8/10 after two days in my smaller tank. Sorry, only have iphone, so photos aren't too good.

It's badly bleached but mouth is tight and tentacles are lengthening. Very little if any baldness around the mouth. Lately I've seen a lot of bleached gigs make remarkable comebacks. This photo is from 8/14

After this time I moved the anem from small tank to big tank (lighting went from 250 MH to led), skipped a few days taking photos and then went on vacation. When I returned the anemone looked great with color coming in nicely. Since it was approaching night fall, I fed a piece of shrimp soaked in selcon and would take pics the following morning. That was this morning and this is what I saw. Sorry pic is terrible.

The anem had pulled back into a hole and there was a small bud below (have to zoom in on photo about an inch below and to the right). I've seen all the threads about carpets not being able to split and OP's being thrown under the bus because no pics of the actual split were taken, etc., With the sequence of my photos (gigantea being is two different tanks and looking totally different) I can understand some skeptism but I'm being true to myself so that's all that matters. I didn't look real close as it was early in the morning before I had to go to work but maybe there is an opening in the underside of the rock and the small bud is actually a part of the original peeking out. I'll research further when I get home. I'm hoping the anem has returned to normal, however dealing with this animal before I'm being pessimistically optimistic.

I know I said I wouldn't show my other gig, but this pic will hopefully validate some questioning whether it's the same anem. I'm hoping to update with further photos when I get home, fingers crossed.

??? I have no idea about your want to post. I see two separate anemones other than picture numbers 1 and 5. I am not sure what picture 5 shoe.

I see the thing you are referring to, but how are we supposed to zoom in on it. I even downloaded the pic and tried to zoom in, but it degrades too much. If you could get a close up of the small piece, that would be helpful.

Yes, sorry, there are two separate anems in the photos. They're not as visible when copying them from photobucket's small footprint. What I'm trying to post is that obviously the bleached anem is not doing well and that in one day's time it deflated and possibly budded. As stated in my original post it was in the early morning and I was going to do more recon when I got home. After arriving home this afternoon the anem had once again inflated (not as big) and the small bud was not there. I can only gather that the supposed bud was part of the anem. It's now in the evening and the anem has again deflated. It's the cycle which I know usually ends in a negative fashion. I did some testing and found my alkalinity to be low because my two ran out. I'm mixing as we speak. So to answer your question as to what I want from this post. At this point nothing but the opportunity to vent. Headed back to a full time lurker.

BTW, No one was happier than me when your gigantea starting making huge improvements due to tempurature change. I even raised mine as well. A Hui Hou!

Phender, sorry for the bad pics

Ryleerei,

It was late and I am a little sleepy last night. Reread again this AM, everything seem perfectly clear and even the picture I see exactly what you are talking about.

Good luck with the anemone. Since you have another tank, I would separate the two anemone. Good luck with the both of them. Do you consider threat one or both of them with antibiotic?

About my anemone, I am not sure that the temperature did a lot, but at the very least, it did not seem to hurt. I think not feeding when they are not well help some. IMO it seem that trying to digest a big meal take a lot out of them. Thank you for your good wishes.

Appreciate the advice. I will try to separate but they are currently on the same rock so it will not be an easy task. I read about antibiotics but don't trust the amount to dose. I do have some baytril around. This morning the anem looked to be in decent shape. I will continue to monitor. Thanks for the well wishes.

I'm hoping it didn't deflate while I was at work. Per Minh, I didn't feed today, seems to be doing ok. Also thought the picassos were harrassing the anem too much. They would steal food and dig into the mouth, so I removed them for the time being. My stray latz used this as an opportunity to move in. It does not steal food or dig into the mouth so I think the anems are much more relaxed.

To be continued....
