Gigantea progress thread

Just wanted to start a thread documenting the recovery of a gigantea. This gigantea was purchased from Ibluewater and looked pretty good out of the bag.

Bad photo, but here it is fresh in the tank.

do you have a pic from when it was "fresh out of the bag"?

would you buy another one from them? maybe it depends if this one recovers? lol

Hey guys, I have had this guy for a little over a month now. That pic was taken 9-03-2014. Geckoejon, I bought a brown gigantea from them also but it died; not due to illness but to a stupid mistake on my part. No pics out of the bag but here are more recent pics.

This guy never once deflated, and have always had a nice tight mouth. The tentacles are are very sticky and it has a very strong feeding response and strong reaction to stimuli.

Wow, talk about a severely bleached gig. The progress photos show the color slowly coming back and the tentacles elongating. It's going to be fun to watch the color come back. By the time it's fully healthy it should look like my avatar photo. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, would rather deal with bleaching than the inflating/deflating death spiral :)

My guess is it will be a nice purple once fully colored up

I have a baby gig now and unfortunately its bleaching is worse than OP's purple gig. OP's gig seems to be responding well to its environment.

Fear not. It could come back!

Agreed. Bleaching is fine because many gigs recover, it just takes time. The inflate/deflate purge is another story and I think our collective track record leans more towards failure than success.

Very nice. It's good to see that it is doing so well.
It is going to be a beautiful specimen.
Great work!

That's for sure.
